Can't see anything but they are swollen and red. I spotted Princess Sophie licking one of her paws this morning and when I looked two of her toes are red and very swollen. It must be very painful. I can't see anything wrong except the redness and swelling but I'm thinking she either got bit by a mosquito or stung by a bee. She has been spending a lot of time outside lately with the cooler weather and just laying around in the grass with the warm sun on her back but now I'm worried. I remembered the amount of benadryl that the vet said I could give her after she had her surgery when she was rubbing her head all around the carpet so I gave her some but I don't know what else I can do. Vet is closed till Monday and all I can think of is going to PetSmart tomorrow after church to get her a cone. I hate to do that to her but I think it might be best. Does anyone else have any ideas about what this could be and how else I might ease her pain?? Thanks! |
Cool compresses and aloe vera gel. Do you have booties? You could place two on her front feet. You also can use a flashlight and really look between her paw pads, in case of a thistle or two lodged there. |

Or she may have an infection where the toenail meets the toe. If it's so swollen, and red hot, you may need to go to the Vet ER.... |
Hoping that Sophie is doing better today . . any news Diane ? |
I put some aloe gel on and between her toes and put an infant sock on her foot. Checked it this morning and the toes are not as red and not as swollen. I rewrapped her foot after DH let her outside in the wet grass and will check it again later today. She's walking on it so that's a good sign. I do plan on taking her into the vet tomorrow no matter what her foot looks like. I figure, if it's red, it's an infection of some kind and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll post again on this thread when I find out more tomorrow. Thanks you all!! |
Awww....poor Sophie. I hope that paw is better, soon! |

Awh glad it is a bit better. And glad you are going to the vet none the less. One of the things I have in my emerg kit is a spray bottle of just saline wash. But it comes out in a bit of a high powered spray, and it is usefull to spray between the toe pads. I carry this when we hike/camp, vacation etc. |
Just a quick update! Checked the foot this morning and the swelling and redness are way down. We do have an appointment late this afternoon because there is definitely a bump and if we leave the sock off, she goes right back at it. Going to get help and will update further when we have more info. Thanks everyone!! |
hope everything checks out ok with PS. |
Praying Princess Sophie's tootsies are better soon. I'll check back later for the vet update. :) |
Ok, had DH take Sophie to the vet (I was in the middle of fixing dinner) and guess what...yes, she's been bit or stung by something. LOL DH says I'm getting good at this diagnostic stuff. TeeHee! Vet gave us an antibiotic to give her and said we need to keep a sock on her foot so she will not be chewing on it. Ok, we can do all of that, no problem and the Princess should be good as new in about a week. Thanks everyone for your concern and kind words. Princess Sophie and I appreciate it! |
Glad everything worked out ok |
So happy to hear she is on the mend. Wallee was chewing his foot the other day too and neither hubby our I could see anything so I put him in a tub of water and soaked and washed his feet. Whatever it was stopped bothering him after that. |

I am so glad that all is well with Sophie and that teh Vet found out the problem. Now she is on the road to a recovery. |
So glad it was only a minor thing and that she is on her way to feeling better ! |
Good news. |
Oh my! Just seeing this about Princess Sophie. So happy to see you were able to help her before seeing the Vet. Praying she's on her way to recovery now that she has antibiotics. Great news! |
