Broken blood vessel in eye My little girl is 5 months old & I just noticed a broken blood vessel (a little blood spot) in one of her eyes. Has anyone had this happen? Could it possibly be something serious? I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow. |
I would get her into the vet today. Eye issues can be very painful, and immediate treatment often can make the difference between recovery or permanent damage. Is the red spot in the white area, or the colored area of the eye? |
I have an off the wall question for you - have you taken her to a groomer in the last week or so? I know of a dog who had 5 broken blood vessels, 3 in one eye and 2 in another, because the groomer went to answer the phone - leaving him unattended - and he slipped off the table attached to the neck leash. He hung from the table until she came back. The vet stated it had to have been at least 5 seconds or more, and that is what caused it. Thankfully his trachea was somehow not affected and his eyes did fully heal. The woman was Alexis Montgomery out of Glendale, AZ and I believe the dog salon was called "Prissy Pooches" - she went out of business three months later. I only mention this because people move around all the time...who knows where she went or what she's doing now. |
It's impossible to know what it is without seeing it. Max has experience with corneal ulcers, a scratch or hole in the very thin outer layer of the eye. Corneal ulcers can progress to the point where they appear as a red spot. Very, very painful stuff. If it is one red spot in the white part of the eye, it could indicate some kind of trauma from debris getting in the eye. Is she squinting or holding her eye closed? Is she sleeping more than usual? These kind of things are easy to treat by a vet. Don't use any over the counter eye meds. Some can make matters much worse. Keep us updated. |
I agree time for a vet. My chachi has had eye issues many times and hes always needes eye drops. Dont delay my chachi has scratched his eye so many times there is permanent cloudiness in it he looks like he has glacoma in that eye |
Thank you everyone. The spot is on the white part of the eye. One little red dot. She does not seem to be bothered by it in any way.. When I called to ask for an appt, the vet did not imply urgency. She has not been to the groomer. I'll let you know what I find out. |
