Last night ER visit When I got home from work yesterday around 6:30pm, I saw that ZoE had diarrhea...bad! She'd obviously tried to make it to her potty area, and had left a trail to it & from it. Lots of it! And she clearly wasn't feeling well as she didn't greet me when I came home :( She wouldn't eat dinner or drink water, so I syringed some pedialyte in her mouth. About an hour later, she vomited. Must have been her breakfast, because she'd still not eaten dinner. I boiled some rice & chicken breast, hoping to tempt her to eat later. But before I could even attempt to feed her, things got really bad around 9pm. She was clearly lethargic as she tried to walk to her potty area, where she had lots of watery, bloody diarrhea. After seeing that, I didn't want to wait until the morning to take her to her vet, so I picked ZoE up, popped on her harness, grabbed my purse, and off we went to the ER. The ER vet examined her thoroughly, and immediately started her on fluids, while she took a blood sample, a stool sample & ran tests. The vet said her belly was soft & palpable (so didn't appear to be obstruction related ), but she was clearly dehydrating fast. CPL snap test was negative for pancreatitis, CBC +profile+lytes were good (lytes good after fluids given) and she had Antiemetic & Metronidazole administered. We left there around 3am and she was seeming a bit more like regular ZoE. No food for 12 hours, then only rice & chicken with some Fortiflora sprinkled on it, and 1ml of Metronidazole very 12 hours. Regular vet called today after getting faxed report/tests from ER clinic this morning to see how she was doing. Said to give her 24 hours to poop and if she doesn't go during that time, to bring her in for xray/ultrasound, or to bring her in anytime if she has any more vomiting or diarrhea or noteable lethargy. No vomiting or diarrhea so far today...but no poop either. She's ate some chicken & rice, two times today and seems in much better spirits. Just waiting on that poop! |
hope zoe feels better |
Sorry to hear your little Zoe was not feeling, hope she continues to feel better now. Don't you just hate it when they get like this and you don't know the reason why. I know I do. Feel better Zoe!! |
Bless her little heart......I am glad she seems to be feeling better today...good job, mom, jumping right on this! They go downhill so rapidly and then you have many more issues to deal with and correct! You were ahead of disaster! |
11pm and ZoE has eagerly eaten more chicken & rice. She's clearly feeling much better as she's brought me a few toys to tug and throw tonight. Still no poop though. I feel like I'm potty-training all over again because I'm so ready to throw a potty party when she finally goes :p |
So happy to see ZoE's feeling much better today. Now if she'd only poop, we know you would feel so much better also! :D Seriously, so glad to see she's eating and drinking for you. ;) |
Glad she's feeling better... that had to be a bit scary! |
I'm so sorry Zoe has been sick. I'm happy to read she is feeling better. Come on, poop!!! |
Glad she's feeling a bit better. Now just gotta have the poop! |
Glad she is doing better! Poor baby...she may just need some more intake before she poops. She probably cleaned herself out, but good, with all that diarrhea. As long as she is taking food and fluids well, the poop should come...as long as nothing else is going on. Sounds like your vet is all over it!!!:D Good job with the quick visit to the Emergency vet, too! |
I'm sorry ZoE was so sick - I hope she poos for you soon; please keep us updated. If ever there was a time you actually rejoiced at the sight of dog feces, it would be now, yes? =) |
What a good Momma you are and glad she is doing better! |
Well, things seemed to be looking up. ZoE ate a few small meals of chicken & rice yesterday, and brought me toys to play with her last night. She finally pooped around 5am...sloppy chicken & rice...yuck. But I thought we were on the mend. Then an hour later, runny, watery, bright red bloody diarrhea again :(. So, I called in sick to work and waited for her regular vet to open. They squeezed us in right away. Vet reviewed the ER vet report & test results, gave her more anti-nausea/vomiting meds & gave her IV fluids. While they were setting her IV up, I suddenly got hot & lightheaded and felt myself start to faint, and the vet tech quickly slid a wicker chair under me & down I went. Next thing, ZoE's on the IV drip & I'm getting ice chips & water. How embarrassing! Good news is they didn't charge extra for treating me too :D |
