Pet ER Why are pet ERs so expensive? Well I came home yesterday and Khloe was vomiting clear fluid, and had a loose stool. Since it was a Sunday, my vet was closed. I had to drive 45 minutes to our Pet hospital. I am just ranting a little. Thank goodness I had care credit. The bill was outrageous . My little girl is feeling better. They think its a bacterial infection and not pancreatistis. Excuse my spelling we just got home at 3:30 and now I am up for work. I wish there were more reasonable clinics. I love my little girl but I can't imagine those folks who don't have pet insurance or medical credit card. My vet is very reasonable but I was afraid to take the chance. |
I know... I take mine in and when the panic is over I freak about the money!! I hate the second guessing too.. I have taken them in so many times when I really could have waited but you know..I don't regret it. I rather take them in then have them get really sick because of me. I hope your baby feels better...and you get some rest |
I hope your baby feels better// I would rather be safe than sorry// I have a care credit card for my vet expenses |
It cost me at least 2 to 3 times more at the ER. :(. But we do what we have to do. Hope your baby is feeling better! |
Thanks I could really use some sleep but I have to work and supervisors don't recognize our furkids as family members. So I am at work about to dose off.:( I really hope Khole gets better soon too. I didn't want to risk it. Things can turn bad so quickly. I was really thankful that I have care credit. Things are tight in my house especially with daughter getting ready to go away to college. |

I know the ers near us are very expensive. Last week we took Oliver to the specialist to have his eyes checked after cataract surgery. It cost $133 and all they did was look in his eyes to make sure his eye is healing correctly, btw his surgery cost $3400. I had cataract surgery a few years ago and it cost me $1200. |
I know what you mean. The prices are ridiculous. I guess it's because they can get away with it since not many are open that late. I was so close to going the other night myself but ended up not going because I didn't think it was life threatening at the time but was two seconds from biting the bullet. Like that last post. We do what we have to. |
Hope your baby is feeling better. I think the reason why Pet ER's are so expensive. Just like the Hospital ER's are expensive for us. If I go to the Hospital ER instead of going to my private physician even though I have Blue Cross I have a $75 co pay. If I go to my Private Physician I have a $10 co pay. But if I'm really sick and can't until the morning I'll pay the $75. The Pet ER's are in my area are open 24/7 , The Staff are all highly Trained (so highly trained I even asked one time if they could be my regular Vet) They charge $90 to $120 just to check in and be seen. But No appointment needed and no waiting. Then they tell you after they treat your pet you should follow up with your Reg Vet, just like our Doctors tell us to follow up with our Private Physician. For my peace of mind I feel it's worth going to the Pet ER it if I can't wait. I don't have Pet Insurance but I do have Care Credit for my girls. I also use The Care Credit at the Dental office for me. :) |
^^I agree with Janice. They are more expensive because they are a 24 hour facility. Night staff cost more. Even keeping the lights on 24 hours a day costs more -- double the electric bill. Our pet ER is a state of the art animal hospital. The equipment costs a lot to purchase and maintain. |
Praying Khloe is feeling better. |
Just like human health care, veterinary care is expensive. There are dog insurance plans available. |
Pray your baby is recovering quickly. |
Hope that you get some rest and your baby is better quick. As for the ER they are because they can. Most Vet ERs are equiped better than a regular vet,its gotta be paid for. Insurance is a must as far as Im conserned. I also keep a pet emergency fund going, because you still have to pay up front. |
