Adonis update 6-20-13 My holistic vet has been nothing less than wonderful! Adonis is now on fluids 2 times a week. Bless her heart, she's not been charging me for it. So I've made her a few dog beds and took to her clinic. He has CRF (cronic renal failure). I'm learning this isn't a death sentence, as it once was. With proper nutrition, and fluids it can be managed quite well. There are a few facebook groups for CRF dogs, and crf feline/canine. I've joined them all! I'm in the beginning stages of learning how to cook for him. Not finding green tripe (highly suggested by my vet) in my area, but started at the top, and working my way down, I did find that Blue Ridge Beef for dogs and cats, delivers to somewhere not too far away. My vet also highly recommended sticky rice, which I'll have to get from an Asian store. I also need to pick up some kidney beans for a few recipes. I've ordered the "good food cookbook for dogs" on Amazon. Found a used one for $0.12 plus shipping. I also have collected about 5 or 6 recipes from different people. finding out ground up clean eggshells are a good kidney binder, mixed with food. Getting a kram course in all this. Adonis sleeps a lot, till we head to the vet. He knows he'll get to take a good walk when we get there, so he really perks up! They are amazed at how perky he is when he's there! I'm like "he doesn't get this way till we get in the car!". My vet answers any and all questions through facebook chat. I can get her when she's off, or out of town that way. I sure have found a great Holistic vet for sure! |
I am glad to hear that Adonis is hanging in there. I know what you are going through. I did it 3 times. It's been awhile though. Let me tell you that Green Tripe, omg stinks so bad. LOL I used to make my sticky rice in the rice cooker. Not sure if Adonis can have treats or not, but one of the things I was able to use for treats were Animal Cracker Cookies. I learned the from Yahoo Groups K9 Kidneys. BUT that has been years ago. Prayers still going out Adonis. |
Thanks Vicky. I know it must stink pretty bad as one of the local cattle companies here said I could have it, if I was ready to deal with it. But I'm sure I'd puke everything up trying to grind it:eek: |

LOL |
The mini Nilla Wafers are also good snacks. Only 0.9 mg phosphorous per cookie and the dogs love them. Diana and the Scoobster |
