My baby started acting strange yesterday Hello. I have a 4 year old female Yorkie who hasn't had any health problems at all. Yesterday she was at home and jumped on the couch and began to shake uncontrollably. She had a hard time walking straight and her legs kind of gave out when she tried to walk. When we rubbed her back legs it seemed to get better. I'm not sure if this just helped her calm down or if her back legs are truly hurt. She doesn't really circle nor "dig" any more than she usually does. She usually digs when she is on the bed getting ready to go to sleep. I have recently moved in with some family because my husband is deploying overseas with the military. She is her usual, playful self and aside from those symptoms she seems to be acting normally. I plan on taking her to the vet, but it has to wait until the first week of July because I will be headed out of town. I'm concerned about leaving her for a week. In your opinion, what are some possible conditions I need to look out for? |
that almost sounds like a siezure...not sure one hundred percent but if it happens again you may want to try and video it for the vet. wishing you the best at finding out what is going on. |
Prayers for your little one. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm sure this episode was very scary for your baby and you. You mentioned circling. How often does she do that? Digging to make a bed is normal, and then circling before lying down is too. General circling is not. Shaking and losing motor control can be a number of things. The sooner you get her in to see the vet, the better. |
She didn't circle for very long. I think it was briefly after she started digging to make her bed. It really wasn't THAT bad but the whole episode was very scary. I'm taking her to the vet Tomorrow. If the vet requests additional tests I will have to bring her back once I return from vacation. My stepson said she didn't have any episodes today so hopefully that's a good sign. We will see tomorrow. Thanks for the help! I will let everyone know how it goes!!! |
Glad to see you're taking her to the Vet! |

Glad she's been Ok today. The shaking may have been from pain as the symptoms you describe can be that of a pinched nerve in the spine. Glad you are taking her to see the vet. |
Update... Gabby's vet said that her patellas are luxating and the shaking is probably from pain and fear. He said that if she starts the shaking more frequently to have her checked for epilepsy. When I get back fom vacation I'm having her teeth cleaned so they will check her blood work then. I'm glad we got good news!!! :aimeeyork |
