Acting really strange all of a sudden growling staring at the ceiling.. Maybe I am freaking out and over reacting but out of the blue Guinness started staring at the ceiling and low growling... Cold wet nose, no throwing up, but all the normal stuff he gets excited about he is not showing any normal emotion. He half hearted ae a carrot, hid the dog bone, when he showed him his brush he did nothing so we tried the harness which usually gets him so excited he can not be still but he let us put it on and DH took him for a ride in the truck... He just laid on the seat and did nothing which again is NOT normal!!! The only thing different is watery eyes... I don't know if I am overreacting or what, it is 11pm so maybe he is tired but I am ready to take him to the ER... I just do not want them to blow me off since he is eating and not throwing up or anything.:(:( |
It could just be an off night or something in the house may be bothering him. But staringat the ceiling is concerning. Is he pressing his head against anything, walking in circles, walking next to walls, drooling, unsteady, shaking, unresponsive when talked to, etc.? |
Staring up and low growling could besome kind of focal seizure...or he might sense something in the attic that shouldn't be there? IDK, but if he has had some kind of neurological changes, I'd want to get him checked. Vomiting and diarrhea is not always a symptom of illness. |
DH is walking him around the block now after their truck ride so not sure how he is walking, he responds to his name and the sound of his harness and just watery eyes, he was smacking like licking his licks BUT he is a nonstop licker so that is not really any different for him. |
Is he checking out a ceiling fan? Sometimes it can take a while for them to notice things.... |
No fans in that room... The only other thing we thought of at first was we were watching an action movie and had the volume up so we turned it off and moved rooms to see if he changed.. |
Could be a spiritual visitor, dogs are know to see thing that we can not. |
Well he walked normal around the pond came back ate a treat and then jumped up into my bed... I guess I am going to watch him thru-out the night and if nothing changes my vet opens at 10am. |

hope he is ok |
Checking on Guinness this morning... |
Hoping to hear he is better this morning.... |
Praying Guinness is back to normal today. |
I've heard of seizures manifesting this way. Hope it goes away and never comes back and was just something up there above the ceiling he sensed or smelled - even just a small rodent or bird that crawled in and died or a nest of bugs or something(hope not that either but better that than a sick dog!). Still, if it keeps up, I know you'll take him to the vet for an exam and probably some tests. All kinds of things though can make them act strangely - even liver shunt and the toxins in the brain from it. Hopefully though, just an aberration and he's back completely normal for good. |

Oh good golly no reaction to the harness, mine go bat s**t crazy when they see the harnesses and leashes so I can only imagine Guiness isn't feeling well. Hope he is doing better today :) |
Please post a update |
We took him in this morning and of course they looked at me like I had lost my mind because he was back to same old normal Guinness :p We have kept him with us all day to see if anything happens but nope just being Guinney... After we calmed down and started thinking he was sitting in the same spot Stella would have been on our old couch when she just freaked out growling and tried to attack Guinness which has never happen again... Don't think these two things could be connected but it does seem rather odd. |
Alisha, one way or another they are going to find a way to worry us! LOL. I'm laughing but there is a lot of truth in that statement!!! I'm glad you got him checked out and hope there's no more of that ceiling growling and worrying momma. |

I had a Shihtzu that did like that years ago. Rushed her to the vet and he said her eyes were dilated. She got okay but the vet wondered if she could have gotten hold of a poison plant? Never really knew what it was but she was ok. |
