Constipation My 3 pound, 9 month old female yorkie is having little balls when she tries to have a bowel movement. This started yesterday. They are not excessively hard, but I feel like she must be a little constipated to have this type of bowel movement. Does anyone know of any possible home remedies I can try. I gave her a large dose of her EnerCal for low blood sugar thinkng the corn syrup may help. Thanks! |
It could be a medical problem she is having and only your Vet can answer that. Does she just get her kibble? If so, add some frozen green beans (thawed) to her kibble (not a lot but they all seem to like green beans) for fiber and see if that helps. You can also give her some 100% pumpkin and put her on a bland diet to see if that helps too. Frozen/fresh green beans do not contain salt and so are better than canned. Good luck and let us know how things turn out. |
What is her standard diet? Has she had this problem before? The Mayo Clinic website says that today's corn syrup probably doesn't help with constipation. |
The canned pumpkin has done wonders for us! I would try that and see if it helps. |
She normally eats Iam's dog food with Ceasar's treats during the day. This is unusual. I have her parents and have never had this problem with them either. I plan to call our vet tomorrow just to be on the safe side. She is acting like her normal self. I tried the extra EnerCal because corn syrup will work with a baby so I thought I would try it. It won't hurt her. |
Have you tried the pumpkin? I'm serious you won't believe how well it really works. Contacting the vet is always a good idea! |

Any changes in activity level? Sometimes if we miss our walks because of weather, Max has a little bit harder time going. I would also make sure she is getting enough water. Dehydration can cause constipation. Max suffered one really bad episode of constipation when he was a pup and the canned pumpkin helped, along with a walk and a warm body wash. If it continues, the balls, definitely consult the vet about diet. Best wishes to your little one. |
