I am so glad you sat there until they saw him. My Cali has MVD but very mild. It was diagnosed through a liver biopsy after her Bile Acid tests were above normal. I think hers were 0/78 and 0/ 49 on retest or close to that. She has done very well on a lower protein diet. I know that there are medicines that can help with MVD also. I hope you can get him feeling better soon. |
Hi Patti, Could you share some of Cali's symptoms?? I am so worried Elliott has these episodes it only happens once a day though usually morning...I am not sure if it is seizure, he arches his back, cries, paces, shakes..I just have to hold him until it stops..I am hoping the med's he is on will give him some relief. We will have results from tests on Tuesday..going to be a long weekend :( |

Does he have any trouble putting his head down to eat or drink? If yes, try elevating his bowls a bit: a folded towel would do it. |
thank you all for your continued support and helpful information. Elliott's "episodes" usually happen in the morning after going out to potty..although he did have one last night as he got stressed because vet said to kennel him due to neck strain..he is not used to that...didn't see anything neurological wrong with him...During "episode" He usually paces, circles, cant get comfortable, cries and shakes holds his head down, arches his back his body is very tense... for the most part only one of these episodes a day it is so confusing.. He is not himself for the most part not wanting to do anything but be on my lap...he is eating and I have been giving him ice chips as he doesn't like to drink water. He is walking fine holding ears and head up eyes are good all when not having episode. |

To be honest, none of this makes sense to me. First of all....exactly what liver test was done that was 50 that the vet said had to be 100 to be of a concern? You did not say BAT and that is what people are assuming...I am thinking it may not have been that because 50 would be considered high. Maybe so since the specialist is now talking about a biopsy and/or other tests. The description you give about his neck concern me greatly. It does not sound like a liver issue to me either. I suppose it could be....but I strongly suggest you ask the vet specifically about AAI (atlanto axial instability)...here is some information for you to read about it: Atlantoaxial luxation | Atlantoaxial Instability | Yorkie Can't Walk | Vet Neurologist Miami Until you know for sure what this is, I would definitely do my level best to keep activity at a minimum. If it is a neck issue, this is very serious. |
Sending prayers to you and Elliott. |
If this were my pup, I would NOT wait till tuesday for test results, I would go to a Neuro ASAP. Find a teaching school & take that baby there NOW !!!! Neck issues are NOT a symptom of liver issues & IF you wait till tues you may loose him.Was he vaccinated within a few months to a few days just prior to the onset of these symptoms ? if yes he could have GME & that will also take a Neuro to diagnose,So PLEASE DO NOT WAIT !!!!GO NOW !!! I SERIOUSLY believe the liver tests are off due to another more life threatening condition and a Neuro can test the liver too but a vet can't test for the other things I mentioned ,only a Neuro can. |
Worrying about what may have caused something is fruitless in my opinion. The bottom line you need a diagnosis. I DO think you need to be insistent about this neck issue. I am less concerned with GME as it does not wax and wane with positioning which is what it sounds like is happening which would make me more concerned about AAI. I am NOT a vet and only a pet owner, but your description is very worrisome based upon my knowledge and experience with issues with pups. I have serious concerns here ... you do have a facility in your area. I had looked the other day....it does not have to be a teaching school...if you don't have one close just get to a board certified specialist. |
Whatever it is, it needs to ba addressed ASAP. OP keep in mind that this is a holiday weekend so IF you have an emergency after today it may be hard to find a specialist when he needs one most & is why I say GO NOW. I would find one & just go, walk in without an appt as these symptoms ARE considered EMERGENCY & have been going on for to long already. |
Any update on this pup ? |
Possible Ear infection? Did the vet check ears ? Inflammation in the ears can cause neck pain.. Maybe a simple ear infection that needs some treatment. What about an infected tooth in the back of her mouth ? Bella's mom |
