No more Flea Collars!! FYI... After wearing the collar for about a week she suddenly got ill last Saturday. Noticed she didn't touch her food that night. I removed her flea collar. But still didn't have a clue what was going on. Thought maybe she got into something in the yard. She was sick all day Sunday, throwing up, diarrhea and very lethargic. I started her on some tummy medicine and she bounced out of it. I still had not put the collar back on. So she was back to herself for a couple of days and I was able to give her a bath. Because she loves being outside with us so much. The next day I put the collar back on her. Within two day's it starts again. Turning her nose up at her food, then diarrhea, throwing up and very lethargic. I am going to find out what brand this was but I know it wasn't Hartz because I read something about them and stayed clear! |
Thanks for sharing your story. Its good to let people know how dangerous those things are nowadays. So much better product out there- So strange how things change.. I remember back in the day everyone’s pets had a flea collar on. Now it seems they just make pets sick. |
I am so glad that your baby is OK. My opinion only, Flea Collars should not be used on small dog's at all. Most especially the ones you buy at Wal Mart and places like that. They can make dog's awful sick. When I was working as a Vet Tech we saw several pet's that died because of these awful things. |
They are toxic for small breed dogs and shouldnt be used on cats either |
IME dogs won't get fleas with a good diet and daily brushing. Unless they go somewhere infested and bring them home. But then again Texas and hot places like that may differ from my State. The bugs grow big there |

Glad you shared your story. It might help someone else to decide against using them. |
the only good things for those collars is to put in your vacum cleaner bag |
I used a flea coller years ago....put one on my brothers dog Sparky and on one of my Chihuahuas. Within 8 hours, the Chi was standing quietly, not moving, looking perplexed....and within a couple more hours, while I was trying to find out what in the yard he may have gotten into, he started twitching and jerking...not seizures, but clearly something neurological....I immediately thought of the collar, removed it, rushed him to the vet where the vet was not real sure what the issue was.....Chi came around, and I never used a flea collar on a dog again.....thinking it affects our small dogs. But then, the next day, Sparky is walking around the back yard, like a drunken sailor.....Sparky was a beagle, a rather hefty set, well fed beagle, so those flea collars are verboten around me and anything I am in charge of, for many, many years.....This happened back in 1980's! |
