Grapes??? I hate that this is my first post - but I am worried. My tiniest Yorkie puppy, Bailey, is almost 12 weeks old (on the 25th) and is about 1 lb. My daughter (teen) was carrying her plate to the kitchen and literally ONE half of an uneaten purple grape fell on the floor and Bai beat her to it. He had it down before I could stop him. I know that dogs cannot have grapes, and we rarely even buy them - but the one time we do - well this happens! Is there anything I should be doing? Is he going to be okay? |
Until someone else posts, I will tell you to call your vet's office and ask them asap. I'm not sure how much is too much for a 1 lb pup so quicker response will come with a phone call to the vet. I'm sorry this had to be your first post, too. Please update us ok? |
I agree with MandiesMom. Call the vet, tell them what happened and let them tell you what the best approach is. Keep us updated |
Call your vet or the local pet ER. |
Talking to the vet now. . . =/ |
=( Talking to the vet now. . . |
You are doing the right thing. Better be safe then sorry. Let us know how the vet visit goes |
please tell us what happens!! I hope Bailey is okay!! Good Luck |
Bailey. . . Our vet says that he should be fine with such a small amount ingested and just to watch him for any sort of "unusual" behavior. . . My heart is racing - and I feel so bad. Prayers please for my little boy! :animal-pa |
Bailey. . . The vet told me that I didn't need to bring him in and that he should be fine with the small amount ingested. =( I feel horrible and am still very worried. He is laying in my arms right now, as I type, and seems just fine - and happy to be with Mommie (like always). My heart is racing though. . . gosh I love my babies (all of them) so much!! Thanks for helping and caring!! :animal-pa |
Thank God it isn't bad :) I know how you feel, they are a part of our family! |

Now with that said, sweet Yorkie Mommie...Welcome to YT!! Please stick around, share pics and chat it up with us other Yorkie parents who obsess and constantly worry about our babies ;) :) |
I'm so sorry this happened, and that you got so worried. Twenty years ago, I didn't know about the dangers of grapes, and my best friend and I, who had an American Eskimo Dog, gave our little ones frozen grapes and raisins on more than one occasion. I would never do it now, but my Yorkie didn't have any lasting effects that I am aware of. Today I read everything I can, and I thought I did then, too, but now information is much more readily available to us. Welcome to YorkieTalk. There is a wealth of information here, and there are also such warm and compassionate people here who are always willing to lend a hand. |
Thank you!!! Quote:

Confused I have posted to responses that say they have to be approved by the moderator before posting - ?? - so I don't know when or where they will show up - but I was thanking you all for our help! I will definitely be sticking around!!! <3 Kymm |
Kymm - after about the 10th or so post, that delay will go away. It gets confusing because you will post and others will post without seeing your post and then your post will get stuck in the middle somewhere lol Hang in there - you are almost out of "limbo" :D |
Okie Dokie! I see that my post about rescuing our babies is now showing! So hopefully I will be out of "limbo" soon! Thanks for explaining! =) K. :animal-pa |
I'm glad Bailey is doing well. :) |
Thanks again! You guys helped keep me calm and keep my head on yesterday. Bailey has been eating, sleeping, playing and potty-ing as normal today. I encouraged a little extra drinking last night with a tiny bit of chicken broth to assure that he was drinking/urinating. He has been his crazy, playful self today - although he is probably wondering why he can't go more than a foot away from Mommie that she isn't right behind him! =) So everything seems good and prayerfully this won't cause any long term effects. Love my boy (and all my fur babies) so much! Thank you all for your care and concern and the welcome to this great group who can understand my Yorkie induced love and worries! Blessings, Kymm |
So happy to read that he is his usual playful self. Yay!! :) |
