Does anyone have an experience with liver shunt? I'm taking my 10 1/2 month old Yorkie puppy for a bile acids test tomorrow...her blood tests came back with her enzymes being 6-10 times higher (depening on the enzyme) than they should be...I was just hoping for some insight or advise on what to ask, what to do, what to avoid. I am praying it is not liver shunt.:( |
How did the test come out? Did you see this thread? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ng-thread.html |
I just noticed your thread is in Videos. You can have it moved to the Health and Diet |
Usually with LS the enzymes are only 2-3 times higher than normal. Also many things can affect a BAT... |
Moved thread to Sick forum. :) |
Toki had elevated liver enzymes on a routine blood test. We had a Bile acid test performed (60 something post-fast) and then we had an ultrasound done (which is not entirely accurate for detecting shunt but can find size abnormalities of the liver or a large external shunt). Our final step was going to the NCSU vet school where they did the scintigraphy which ruled out shunt. Toki was diagnosed with a mild form of MVD and never had any symptoms and required no special diet or treatment. I am hoping that your pup doesn't have a shunt but there are a lot of positive stories in terms of successful treatments for LS here on YT. Sending positive thoughts your way...please keep us updated. |
Thank you...the vet said she does have LS which we are going to try and control with diet, but there is so much conflicting information. I'm doing my best with the meds and hepatic food. I'm still paying of the tests and meds, not to mention food. I know there are other tests, ultrasounds and such, but at least she seems to be eating a little more and has a little more energy. Also, I'm just learning to use this site, so forgive my response if it doesn't show up correctly. |
I'm learning all sorts of things, but sometimes the information seems to conflict so, I'm hoping the vet is right in what she is telling me what to do. I also found some support pages on Facebook, so I'm doing my best to keep my girl fed and happy. |
Haven't been on this with a long while. Just saw your thread. My little guy buddy was diagnosed with liver shunt almost a year ago. How is your little one doing since? Buddy has had surgery and is flying it since so if you need any advice or have questions please ask |
