Itchy ear after grooming?? Ughh I agonized over getting Ellie her summer cut but got it done today. She looks so skinny and different I'm having a hard time getting used to it. Anyway, since she's been home she's been itching her ear bad and dragging her butt! I'm pretty sure they plucked her ear hair and checked her anal glands, could it be because she was messed with so much??? |

1 Attachment(s) She isn't itching so much now, thanks for asking :). I need to stop being such a worry wart haha. Just scared me because when I brought her home from the breeder she had an ear infection  so I think i just panicked. Yes, no more puppy hair, I kind of miss my fluff ball but it will be easier to keep up with her grooming :aimeeyork |
The ear plucking removed hair from her ear....she is now FEELING air blowing into her ears....sometimes, that causes them to shake their little heads, and scratch...they are just feeling something that is new to them! The plucking could have also caused a little irritation, and they could have also gotten a little water in her ear....I think she will be OK very soon....also, same thing on her butt...air is hitting a place that was shielded by hair....it feels different and they will run and drag their butt or look over their shoulder at their little butts...also expression of anal glands may have her a little strange feeling "back there"....this too shall pass quickly!! |
Jess did the same thing after her first grooming appointment. It went away pretty quickly. I was like you, they brought her out and I said "that's not Jess" she looked soooooooo different. It took me a couple days to get used o but now that som face fur has frown in she is back to looking like herself, just more groomed.. |
Aww she looks so pretty!! Peanut usually will scoot on his bum after getting his anal’s expressed. If the butt scooting goes on for more than a couple days take her into the Vet to have the Dr make sure all the juice is out.. The groomers will only express the anal from the outside, some juice can be left. I had problems with Peanut’s groomer since they don’t get 100%, I take Peanut into the vet to get them done and since then he hasn't had any issues. ( Just something to be aware of) |
Sometimes they will also get water in the ear. Causes them grief and then also can cause a yeast infection. There are some ear drying ointments you can purchase to dry the ear out. Sometimes shaving the bum will also cause some irritation for a few days. |
She is doing better, thank you all :). I need to stop worrying about everything, it's like having a newborn all over again haha. I doubt she got water in her ear since I realized she just shaved her by but didn't bathe her  not too impressed! |

That's what I thought! I gave her a bath Saturday because I thought she was still a little stinky and the water was dirty! Ughh I can't win, can't seem to find a decent groomer in my area :(. She was very nice and kind to Ellie but I think she's over booked, that place was busy when I dropped her off. IF I bring her back for trims I will be sure to tell her I want her bathed this time. |
