Hey everyone! So my little Miley (3 1/2 yrs/4.8 pounds) went in for a dental cleaning today & shortly after I dropped my little girl off, I got a call from my vet saying they refused to operate on her or give her anesthesia for the fear of her not waking back up because she has abnormal breathing. I've always been aware of her snorting and coughing and honking noises but when I addressed it to the vets previously, they acted as if nothing was wrong. After doing research it sounds like my little one has a Collapsed Trachea. She has an apt for X-rays Friday but just thinking about her being diagnosed with this makes my heart ache. She is my little girl, don't know what I would do without her. Miley was also diagnosed with epilepsy about a month ago. She was purchased from a pet store & probably from a puppy mill. If anyone has any positive info they can provide I would appreciate it so much. Also she sounds constantly congested. Please keep Miley bear in your prayers for me. :aimeeyork |
My Zada has had CT for a few years and it's manageable with the right care.
First, don't take your baby for walks, as the dust makes things worse. It has to be treated like asthma. (carpets are bad for them, wash clothes and bedding in something like ALL FREE, no fuzzy toys or blankets. Quilts are fine). Don't let her get heated. No laying too long in the sun (or stay outside too long at a time), and such and keep her coat short. Keep your house cool and in the winter months when you heat, make sure you have a humidifier so the air doesn't dry out. Try not to let her get excited, like someone coming to see you or you make too much of a fuss when you come home. Have your Vet. give you a prescription for an inhaler. Don't buy the dog breathing tube that you put the inhaler into, but buy an child/infant tube from the pharmacist instead, because it has a little round opening that fits perfectly around the dogs nose. (little dogs). Also the Vet. could give or prescribe a special syrup you can give when needed.
My Zada can't be put under either for teeth cleaning, but thankfully since I've brushed her teeth every night for the past seven years, her teeth are in excellent condition. She also always has a stash of beef femur bones she loves chewing on.
Good luck to you and your little girl. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. |
