Please help Bella started throwing up last night and was shaky and welding as if in pain right after. I kept my eyes on her all night and she stopped throwing up but had a lot of bloody loose stool so I took her to the vet first thing this morning and he said she had HGE but to figure out what's really going on like if it was something she ate, if it's colitis, bacteria, or disease they had to take xrays, do many testings, etc which I unfortunately could not afford after they showed me the entire treatment plan. I asked them to just hydrate her with subcateanous and they did. They sent her home with antibiotics and gastrointestinalscience diet food for later . She does not want to take the food in at all. I had to force down pedialyte and her antibiotics. I'm just hoping someone can give me advice or maybe someone has been through this? It's too painful to see her like this |
im so sorry....could you borrow the money to get the testing done. jmo but if that is what they are suggesting you should just to be safe...can you do a payment plan? i hope the antibiotics help but not eating would worry me to pieces. prayers for bella to get better. |
I am so sorry about bella/praying that she gets better |
Did they do blood testing? That would be the only way to diagnose HGE. If they did and she really does have it, this is an emergency and she needs to be hospitalized or she could die. Does your vet accept Care Credit? You could apply for that to cover her bills. You can apply online at: Healthcare and Medical Financing for Consumers | CareCredit |
No they actually didn't do blood test, he just said it looks like she has HGE. I guess cuz of the symptoms maybe? I was going to wait and see if she got better with what they did but she doesn't seem to be feeling any better so I think I am going to try and find the funds. |
I know how it is these type of things always seem to happen at the worst time. Have you applied for care credit at your vet? I hope your able to find a solution and get your dog vetted. |

Has anyone's baby been diagnosed with HGE? |
There are many thing that have the same symptoms and a bloodtest needs to be done. Yes,I lost a little poodle to HGE!! If I knew then what I know now I would go back and do several things different. I had not ever heard of HGE,when Bunkey died. My heart was ripped out and run over the day he passed. He was so sick by the time the blood test was done and results returned that it was to late. Use a credit card, ask your family for help, apply for carecredit. This is something that isnt minor and wont wait. |
Praying for you both! Hope all gets better soon. |
My Allie wass dx'd with HGE last February. This is nothing to mess with at all it is veyr serious. Your baby needs to be treated, she does need to have blood work done. My Allie was in the hospital. |
Most Vets will work out a payment plan if you can afford a down payment. Please don't delay, if your Yorkie has HGE, it could be fatal if not treated properly; How is HGE treated? The mainstay of treatment is aggressive supportive care -- no food or water by mouth for 1-4 days (while on IV fluid therapy), and intravenous (IV) fluid therapy with Potassium added to the fluids. Antibiotics are also recommended (IV, subcutaneous). Food should be reintroduced slowly and, in the event that the HGE is food related, a new (novel) protein should be given that the dog doesn't usually eat, i.e. chicken, lamb or cottage cheese. |
Thanks for everyone's help. She is actually more responsive. She took in two teaspoons of the food the vet send her home and she is drinking pedialyte. The best sign was when she chased her laser! That's how we knew she is doing much better already. |
