Pneumonia in my oldest baby while other is barely hanging on :( Not even sure what to do at this point. I've posted about my sweet Khloe and the accident yesterday that may claim her life. She is really in pretty bad shape. I had taken both dogs in because Khloe needed her 2nd set of shots and my Louie had the sniffles and a bit of a cough. The Dr diagnosed them with Kennel Cough and put them both on antibiotics although my tiny Khloe wasn't really showing symptoms.Dr said Louie had fluid in his lungs and was weezing so she also put him on LASIX. I was upset over the news and went to get some pill pockets for Louie's medication at petsmart. It was after leaving that vet appt and going to Petsmart that Khloe jumped down and hit the concrete and began to have seizures. She was unconscious. After rushing her immediately back to the vet and dealing with all of the stress and emotions I didn't feel like typing out everything about Louie. I still gave Louie all of his medications thinking he would be improved by today. He isn't and he is sniffling and kind of making a noise when he breathes. We are about to take the 4th dose of Lasix medication and antibiotics and I feel he shouldn't sound worse than he did when I took him in. I'm in no shape to return to the vet at this hour after not sleeping last night and barely eating anything for more than 30 hours. Not sure what to do at this point but wanted to ask here if anyone had experienced anything like this with their Yorkie. He is two years old, utd on vaccines and not around any other dogs except Khloe. He has no previous health issues so this has me very concerned. |
SS I din't have any answers for you, But wanted you to know sorry you are going through all of this with your babies sending prayers they will both be well soon!!!! |
So sorry for what you are going through. I hope both of your pups recover quickly! My only advice is to go back to your vet if symptoms get worse. My puppy had bad kennel cough/hacking gagging for months but it finally resolved. Good luck! |
Kennel cough can linger for quite a while. Give the meds time to take effect, but monitor him to make sure he's not having real difficulty breathing. Continued prayers for little Kiki also. |
I would at least call your vet about Louie to let him/her know you're not seeing any improvement and let the vet decide the next step or tell you exactly what to expect. One option would be to change the antibiotic. As for Kloe, an issue with her recovery is that she had just got her vaccine(s). The vaccine stimulates the immune response, as will an injury or infection. Her immune system is overloaded at this time due to her injury, but the vaccine should clear her system in 3-4 weeks, at which time it will get to work on her injury. If she's very small, and if she got more than one vaccine, it could take a week or two longer. It's possible to not see much improvement till the vaccines work their way out of her system. Praying for your little ones... |
I'm so very sorry to hear this and have you and those babies in my heart and prayers. If he does get worse, I know you will summon the reserves to get him to the vet ASAP. There is nothing like a very sick dog to get you beyond your own illnesses and pains and utter fatigue and on the road making a bee-line to the vet. I just pray you don't have to take him in tonight and I know how horribly fatigued you are. I've had little sleep and have been in and out of that huge truck carrying Tibbe in his carrier back and forth to the vet and up and down waiting and tending to him until no place on my body is not hurting and I've slept less than 5 hours in 4 days. But fear can drive us onward and if that little one gets worse, I know you will make it in with him while praying for stamina. I'm praying especially for our Lord to provide you with all the strength you need to get him in should he need to go for help. I wish I could be there to drive you in because you sound spent in every way. But sometimes the faint can soar like eagles when they must. Please know I'm here thinking of and praying for those babies and their sweet mommie. |
I am so sorry to hear about your two pups and their difficulties. We did have kennel cough here last year. I picked up a foster from one of the local pounds, and did not realize that even though she was not showing any symptoms at the time, she could still get ill and pass it along. I felt so awful about all three dogs coughing and carrying on. Anyway, we made several trips to the vet, etc. It took awhile, but everyone did get well. Honestly, I slept in the basement for two months with the dogs, so my husband would not have to sleep with a pack of coughing dogs. Unfortunately, I also had bronchitis at the time and was miserable coughing, too. (Not the happiest time of my life.) Prayers for your little ones and I know you will go to the vet again, if you think it is getting worse. |
I'm so sorry you're going through such a difficult time right now. One of mine had pneumonia last summer. It took MONTHS for it to clear her system. I was very concerned because she was a tiny puppy & it never seemed to get any better. If you feel like Louie's current meds are not working at all, I would defintely voice that concern to your vet. However, it is normal for pneumonia to linger for quite some time, even months. Stay strong & positive! Praying for both of your babies. |
Worrying and checking in for the latest. Can't wait to hear if they are any better and am praying. I haven't stopped praying for them. |
Keeping both of your little ones in my prayers. |
Buster had a bad case of kennel cough when I first got him. It continued for weeks. He had started improving and the Vet decided he was well enough to get one of his vaccinations, sorry I don't remember which one, but that caused him to get worse and he verge on pneumonia and he ended up having to stay overnight for a few days on IV antibiotics to deal with it. This all has to be so emotionally and physically exhausting for you I am so sorry. I would get my bathroom all steamy and then take Buster in for a while and that seemed to help him when he was hacking/heaving. It's so hard to see them sick. I would definitely let your vet know and maybe they might want to add other medications to help fight the kennel cough. Sending prayers and hugs. |
