Puppy broke paw, and need to stay off it. Ideas for entertainment?
 

So he's supposed to stay off his paw as much as possible. But he's a 13wk pup with loads of energy. Heck, it was enough trying to tire him out before w/o being able to taking him outside because he's not finished his series of vaccinations.
But now, I trying to keep him busy and off his feet feels like a real task. Though today he's just seems exhausted he still wants to play a little bit. I took him to the peepad, and he wanted to hop around on his hind legs and play. And I know I'm going to have to get an e-collar as he chews on everything and anything so I know he'll chew on the bandage more out of boredom than annoyance.
Anyone who's had a pup with a cast/stint have favorite way to keep them entertained but still kind of inactive?

Poor baby. If you get him a collar make sure it is a soft collar.
I pity you trying to keep him quiet. I would be tempted to carry him around like he was my baby kangaroo. LOL
I suggest that you give him lots of chew toys. That age wants to chew a lot anyway! LOL And of course keep him crated.

crated, bully sticks (long ones that will last forever lol), a soft e collar can be ordered from hot rod's mom (go to the Yorkie Talk Vendors thread and find her link as I can't recall her exact screen name), some puzzles and interactive toys might be good (like the hide a squirrel and treat puzzles)...

I will also PM another lady who had to keep her pup confined after surgery. She may have some very good tips for you because she did a great job at it.

Im sorry this happened. It happened to mine as well. Its a long road but it passes faster than you think. I do want to ask you, did you have a surgeon look at the break? Mine broke just above her paw and they put the same cast on. It didnt help at all. I ended up with 5 weeks in a cast and 8 weeks confinement after surgery. Im not telling you this to alarm you, just so that you dont end up like I did. My vet was wrong ( no longer my vet)
That said, we tried to mix it up as much as we could. I had three different crates for her in different rooms. When she got unruly we put her in the smallest crate to calm her. She rarely walked at all. Just stood up and turned around. I bought a cheap stoller at walmart and jimmied the straps and took her for rides. We lowered her ceiling in her cage and padded the floor so that when she jumped she landed on cotton. We got tranquilzers from the vet to calm her. She was not really allowed to walk at all. We kept pee pads in her crates. we played hide the cheerios in our hands and she could guess with her nose. I held bully sticks and kongs for her (she couldnt put the pressure on her leg to hold her own)while I watched tv. We brushed her and massaged her body to keep circulation going. I think her break was likely alot worse than your pup. Bottom line is she is healing great *takes 6 months)She now runs around the family room now takes short walks and her radius and ulna are both healing (surgeon was shocked he said the ulna would never heal but she didnt need it) message me if you want more details... :smile:

Lots of affection & attention..chew toys, snacks, my baby likes small stuffed animals. She plays & chews on them, then falls asleep literally on them :)

I agree!!!! I love it! I ordered one from her to have on hand in case I ever needed it and sure enough right after I got it Skeeter decided to lick the groomers scissors and cut his tongue. He kept opening the cut by licking his paws then he started licking the blood off his paws which caused it to bleed more. It was an endless circle. The collar kept him from reaching his feet but not from any other activities.
