My prayers for your sweet poodle. I hope the vet can find out what happened and not let that happen again. Did something bite her? So weird to get so sick all of a sudden. The hand of the Lord is with you and I will pray today that she gets better. |
Our Prayers are going out to you. We have our fingers and paws crossed for your baby. |
((Hugs)) and prayers for your baby! |
oh no, so sad! i hope your baby heals very soon! it's so heart wrenching to see them in pain. sending all my love and prayers to you, your family, and your little baby! <3 |
Update. Thank you all again for the prayers. She is still pretty sick, making tiny improvements everyday. She still has really bad direaha and at the end of every bout she has she has bright red blood, sometimes drops, sometimes its stringy and sometimes its clots. (Sorry so graphic). Her poo is tarry and black. She is spending the days at the vets on iv fluids and at home with me. Im back at work and Im not comfortable leaving her home alone so until she is at least 50 percent better i will take her to the vets everyday. They have started her on teaspoon of low fat I/D every few hours and she is eagerly eating it but we dont want to overwork her stomach. She is on, and excuse my misspellings, 1/4 of vitamin K chewable daily, 1/4 of famoitidone once daily, and a full pill ( not sure of dose) mezo something to settle her stomach twice a day. They also keep the cathrater in her leg for easy access to fluids. We should hopefully no more today when her blood work comes back. If anyone has any suggestion of what this could be please let me no. :/ |
Could she have gotten into something poisonous or do u have a sago palm plant? |

I hope and pray that your baby is better soon. The bloody stool part sort of sounds like some sort of toxicity, although it is a symptom of many, many things I am sure. I lost my Roxie to a sago palm seed back in January, so that is the reason I mentioned that. I am sure that is not your situation seeing as you are in New York. Sago palms are everywhere here in the south now. I am trying to educate everyone I possibly can about the dangers of this plant. Please keep us updated on her progress. Maybe the tests will reveal the cause today and you can start on the appropriate treatment. This also sounds much like Winston, my oldest yorkie, who had bleeding gastroenteritis once. He only had it that one time and it has never happened again, thank God. Praying for your baby girl. |
Sorry your little girl is going through that, sending prayers her way!!! |
Well their initial thoughts were that it was rat poison but i don't keep it at the house, she doesn't go anywhere unsupervised so I didn't think that it was possible, but to be safe thats how they are treating her. I don't have any plants at my house, but thank you gor the suggestion. However, her blood work came back and the poison test was on the high end of normal, but normal so no poison. She was dehydrated which we knew and her protein was low, which having bloody stools its not uncommon. They tested her electrolytes for addisons disease and she is waiting on those results which should be back today. |
So glad it wasn't a toxicity, because so many times like in Roxie's situation, there is no antidote. Not sure I spelled that right. Anyway, that is very good news. Maybe you will get a cause narrowed down soon so the appropriate treatment can be started. I know you are so worried, I would be, too. We love our babies so much and they are exactly that to us, babies. :animal-pa |
Thank you Susie. :) |
She is getting better! They gave her a different medicine yesterday while she was at the vets to help settle her stomach and it made a huge difference! :) Her poo is still very runny but shes isnt going as often and it is no longer black/tarry looking and very little blood. She isnt really eating the I/d anymore so the vet told me to try boiled chicken and rice. She ate that like she was starving, im only offering her small amounts at a time. She is back at the vets today just for supervision. They also took her catheter out of her leg. All of her test have came back ok, so they are thinking she just ate something. :/ She is not one to eat anything but her food so Im still baffled. Thank you all for the prayers, they worked! |
So glad! |
