Severe Bruising I took my 6 year old yorkie, Harley, to get vaccinations from the vet he has always seen and they took blood from his jugular to run test. The next day he was acting weird an wouldn't let me hold him and wouldn't eat. I took him to the emergency vet late Wednesday night and they shaved his hair and showed me that his neck, in between his shoulders and down to his belly was all bruised and dark purple. The bruise covers his body on the bottom side and is really really bad. The emergency vet made sure his blood was clotting, his oxygen level was good and his test all came back okay. The er vet told me he was hurting but he would be fine and gave him some pain pills and sent us home. I am extremely worried and don't know if this is normal!!! Its been two days and it hasn't gotten any better and hasn't gotten any worse. Has anyone else experienced this and of so, should I be worried??? |
O___O That sounds ridiculously scary! So sorry to hear your baby is in pain! I'd look into going to another vet.........AFTER I let the current ones know how I felt about what they did. You can also get them to cover your ER visit as well. Bruising after a vet visit is never acceptable. Hope he heals very soon! Poor thing! |
I have never had that happen with mine but I've read about it online. Seems to be more common than I thought (doing a quick google). If they dont hold enough pressure after a blood draw, there is leakage which shows as a big bruise. I would still let your original vet know. Maybe they need more training in blood draws. Just like with humans, this looks worse than it is. |
