I'm so glad Layla is going to be fine. When I found a discoloration on Kady's eye I took her to the ophthalmogist and they found out she had retinal cancer and she lost her eye but that never slowed her down. She lived to be 16 1/2 yrs old. I'm glad Layla will not lose her eye. Good luck. |

I have just read this thread.. and so glad it has a happy ending!! Hang in there Oliver too! |
Please send good thoughts to Layla today! I just dropped her off for surgery. I am worried and anxious to have it over with! |
You can bet I will be thinking and praying for Layla today. I must have smoked a pack of cigarettes when Oliver had his surgery. Try to relax if you can. Let me tell you the post op care is the hard part. Please keep us posted. I also want to tell you that it is so good to know that some people really care about their babies. |
Praying for Layla for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Looking forward to hearing she is back home with you. |
Thanks for thinking of her today! She should have just gone into surgery 15 minutes ago. My friend called me this morning to apologize for the incompetent people in reception - she was supposed to meet with me before they took Layla, but reception just took her and told me I could go. Anyways, she went over it all and said she just has to let me know that they may have to remove her whole eye but it's a very small chance. They are also going to do another culture on her urine while she's there, to make sure our treatment is working. She also told me I can pick her up after she wakes up if I want, or I can leave her there until 4. I will see if people at work mind if I bring her in here. She will still be drowsy from anesthesia so she shouldn't be bothersome. I just feel better having her with me. I am putting all my energy into sending good vibes to her right now, so it's really hard to concentrate on work! |
That is very nice that you have a special friend at the vet's office attending to Layla and you. |

Well it has been an hour and I haven't heard anything yet :( :( :( I know she said they'd call when Layla wakes up, but I'm nervous that the surgery didn't go well. They said worst-case scenario would be if she had to lose her eye and it would end up taking about an hour. They took her from me so quickly this morning I didn't really have time to say goodbye to her and now I'm so scared that's might be the last time I saw my baby with two eyes. I am just feeling really worked up over it right now. |
My friend must have read my mind because she just texted! Layla is still in surgery but they did not have to take her eye!!! They are just putting a graft over the hole they made when they took the tumor out. I am so elated!!! For once, Layla got a break! |
Oh gosh, I had tears in my eyes after your one post.....I SO know how you felt. I have left pups in a hurry and then tormented myself over it thinking just like you did. Thank God all is well!!! So happy to hear this. You and Layla SO deserve a break! |
It seems like the surgery took about an hour and a half. She texted after they were out for a few minutes and said everything was looking good. She was going to run out to grab some lunch and would check on Layla and call me when she got back. I felt so bad when I was leaving, because the animal attendant really wanted to take her from me and cuddle her while I was going through signing the waiver and everything. Then the reception lady said "Okay, that's all. See you later" and I looked up and Layla and the attendant were already gone! Thank goodness it all worked out or I'd be kicking myself for not pushing to see her one last time before leaving.... I am just a really shy person and can't bring myself to speak up at times like that. |
Wonderful news!! I am very happy for Layla and you. *happy dances* :) I'm so happy and relieved for you that the surgery is over and was successful! |
So happy all went well! Yay Layla! Praying for a speedy recovery! |

See, I knew everything would work out for Layla. I'm really so happy for you and Layla. Now the fun begins. I'ts gonna be worth it. I know when I look at Oliver everything was worth it. His eye is opened now and bright. He still hates his eye drops but he's getting used to it. Give Layla a big kiss from me and Oliver. He was pulling for her also. Keep us posted on how she is doing post op. |
I am glad that Oliver is feeling better!!! Layla is half asleep in my arms so I am typing with one hand lol! She is on 3 different eyedrops 4 times a day for 4 weeks. I hope we can keep up with that! |
I am so glad that you have Layla home now with you and also happy they didn't have to take her eye. Prayers going going out for her recovery. |

You may want to make a little list to note when her drops are given. Max only had one eye med and it became so redundant that I started questioning myself about whether or not I had given it. |
I'm so glad to hear that all went well! What a little sweetheart! Get well wishes to Layla! |

Layla didn't have much of an appetite when we got home yesterday, and she slept all evening. She woke up at 1 am and was crying and her stomach was growling. DH got her some food and hand-fed her a whole bowl. We found out she can drink on her own if we use our biggest bowl - it is large enough that her cone will fit inside. But she wasn't content and she cried continuously until we got up. I actually went downstairs at 4:30 to sleep on the sofa for an hour. It didn't help much though, I could still hear her. I don't know if she was in pain or annoyed with the cone or just didn't want to sleep anymore. She stopped crying when we were up and getting ready for work. I want the next 4 weeks to be over! I hope she starts feeling better soon. |
Poor Layla and you! Hope she can sleep through the night tonight. |

See I told you the hard part is when they come home. I have a schedule on my fridge so I don't forget any of the eye drops but it still gets confusing. Just make sure the cone isn't too big. I had Oliver's cut down because it was way too large. After that he was a little better. He was able to drink water out of a very large bowl but I still had to hand feed him. Thank goodness he cut down his drops and after a few days he's finished with his predisone and clave mox. It's getting to the point now that when he sees me he runs under the bed. This is a very exhausting time but it does get better. When you see Layla all healed you will know how great it feels. Oliver had his cone removed after a week. Maybe if all goes well Layla will get her's removed sooner. Just think positive thoughts and you're gonna make it. Give Layla a big kiss from OLiver and me. If I lived near you I would bring Oliver over to see Layla and you can see what a little love and caring can do. |
Aww I'm sure Layla would love a visit from Oliver! She sends her doggy love his way :) I just went to my grandma's house to give Layla her eye drops. She was soooooooooooooooooooo excited to see me! She was much more herself. My grandma found a larger container for a water bowl because I told her that she might have to hold the little bowl up to Layla's mouth to get her to drink. I mentioned we had one large bowl at home and Layla will drink out of it on her own because her cone fits inside it. So I guess my grandma tried holding the little bowl up to Layla but covered herself in water and thought she'd try just putting out a bigger bowl too lol! Anyways, she seems to be doing really well today. She has been having lots of naps and my grandma has been spoiling her as usual. |
So glad Layla did well and didn't lose her eye. Hopefully the next 4 weeks will fly by. |
