Are Greenies bad for Yorkies and other dogs??? Heard from a few reputable websites that the greenie teeth cleaning treats can potentially kill Yorkies causing failure to different organs!! I buy these by the box and give one to each of the my dogs twice a day! I obviously stopped but Im wondering how have your experiences been, I have noticed healthier teeth!! And they love it, pretty shameful for the company if it is harmful for what they charge!!!! |

I opt to feed mine just fresh veggies as snacks. Once a day they get Fruitables (one cookie per dog) which are low calorie cookies. I like the company because a veterinary nutritionist founded it. My dogs really like them too. |
They did get some bad press over obstructions. There are still reports after the formula chage. All edible chews are a risk though. They are good for teeth, but generally considered not worth the risk. Tey are made by Nutro which is a company we avoid here. Depending on size and calries, two a day is probably way too much for a yorkie. |
I use to give them to my pom who was 12 lbs but after the scare came out about possible obstructions I stopped. I don't give mine any of the chews because it's not worth the risk. |
Yeah, I'm on the same page as everyone else. I stopped using them when there were reports of blockages causing death. The company never admitted any wrongdoing but changed their recipe. I just figured, if it's not food, they don't need to be swallowing it. Alternatives are Kongs stuffed with goodies, nylabones that they don't swallow and, something I like for them, Himalayan dog chews. That's a hard cheese that lasts forever, and they can't ingest much. Best bet for teeth, IMO, is brushing with a canine toothpaste. |
I bought them when I first got Rosie. She got choked on one of them so I stopped buying them. They aren't worth the risk. |

Also my Vet told me bacteria can live on the Bully Sticks and cause tummy upsets so just watch for any diarrhea after chewing on those. |
Thank you guys for the feedback! Will look into the fruitables! Better to stick to natural foods. |
