Just seeing this now. Keeping Miss Mini in my prayers! |
Im sorry about the collapse trachea diagnosis for Mini. It is different in all dogs sometimes it gets worse with age but sometimes not. Just like sometimes you see more of it with more activity. At least you have a diagnosis and you know what you are dealing with. So many assume it is ju8st reverse sneezing when its really collapse trachea |

scratch that, I'm now drinking coffee and going to see her, the guilt is overwhelming! will update when I get back! Thanks all. |
Please be careful! |
Just now seeing this, how is Mini doing....and how are you? Prayers being sent for Mini. |
Mini You will feel better after seeing her, but take it easy on the roads! It is great that she likes the vet staff and does not get stressed there, that helps a lot. You are the one who needs TLC now, so take care of yourself. Mini will be FINE! |

Here is the thread Taylor and Jenny referred to: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...blem-news.html Praying for Mini. |
Oh, just catching up with this and reading your post about the CT. How terrible and poor, poor little baby. I know you will do your homework and learn all there is to know about this terrible condition and get and give her the best of care. Poor little girl. CT does sound so terrible and painful and scary for the dog. And the mommie. I am so sorry to read this. I've been and will keep on praying for your Mini. |
Sure hope Mini is feeling better soon so she can go home and be with you. Lots of hugs and kisses your way. |

seriously, one drink no drive for me....I've known people, plural, who have died like this.... Let me add this.... Please don't drink and drive ANYONE.... |
Mini was good, loving the attention she was getting. In addition to those meds they also have her on steroids, which is a common drug for Miss Mini and her allergies etc.....Vet said that it was interesting that this happened when this is the longest period of time Miss Mini has been off steroids....wondering if the steroids have been keeping it in check??? Hmmmm.... She was very responsive, yet tired, I know the experience tripped her out. She is in Oxygen... Specialist has been contacted and will see her Monday morning. Definitely had fluid in lungs, strangely she wasn't demonstratively showing ANY symptoms.... I really did hate leaving her there, but Linda is really attentive to her..honestly, she looked good enough to go home to me, but they want to watch her and let the specialist examine her....forgot to ask if bloodwork was done, or to loopey to remember, I'm not sure...ex asked me if I was drinking...I said of course I was...he looked at me very strangely.... anyway...keep the prayers coming...guess I will start reading and learning tomorrow....I really hope this is a fluke...vet doesn't think so... |
Sending prayers Lynzy. Thanks for the update. |
Sending good thoughts and blessings to you both. I hope Mini is doing better |

Yes, cold air can definitely trigger some throat/breathing issues. And oddly, cold air can stop other similar issues (ie, some people can get a (very terrifying) laryngospasm to stop by opening their freezer and breathing cold air). Do pollens irritate her? Bc that'd obvs be another common trigger. Yup, it's highly likely that CT would get worse with age. Anytime there is something wrong with a structure in the neck/throat -- all other surrounding structures are affected. This causes an overall weakening and/or inappropriate compensation in surrounding structures bc if one structure isn't right, it affects the whole local working system. Hope that makes sense. If steroids work for her, I wonder if Temaril P would be an option, esp if she also has pollen issues....? |
As Anne suggested, Temeril P might help her..... My George has CT. He was diagnosed in Nov. 2011 when he had preop testing done at Texas A&M. They called me to say that his trachea was profoundly collapsed. I was stunned as he never had the symptoms you so often see with CT. He has been on Temeril P for years for his allergies and we have surmised that it may have been what kept the symptoms down. I have had a few of these pups and found that different things work for different pups. You just have to experiment with different meds...at least that is what I have found. |

As soon as you said theophylline, I thought that was a good idea. Potential side effects: anxiety, tachycardia, hyperactivity, possibly decreased appetite. The levels need to be monitored, also, to maintain a theraputic dose. Keeping you in my prayers! |
Just checking in this am to see how Mini is doing. Praying it was a good night |
Sending prayers & happy thoughts for Mini. Stay strong. |
I had to get on here & check on Mini this morning. I hope she is doing much better today. |
