Help My 4 year old yorkie at a small whole hot potato. She is acting normal however she is coughing and acting like she needs to throw up. She is eating treats I give her but it's seems like water is hard to drink. How long will this last? And do you think she burned her throat? Her gums are a good color too:confused: |
how big was this small potato? She might have a little obstruction if she can't drink water and if she's coughing. I wouldn't give her anymore treats for sure. Without knowing how big the potato was, my first reaction is to call an ER vet and see if they can recommend doing anything or if you need to bring her in. |
Offer her some ice and ice cold water... a vet will have to check for internal burns |
She should be seen by a vet asap... tonight |
Did your baby eat the potato while it was till super hot? I would think that a normal reaction would be it's too hot to eat. I know when I give Uni Honest Kitchen if it's too hot she really wants to eat it but just kind of flicks it around with her tongue. Also some dogs are allergic to white potatoes. I would be calling the vet for sure. |
Poor baby! I agree with everyone else, she needs to see a vet tonight, as soon as possible. Please let us know what happens!! |
I would call my vet. It's always better to be safe instead of sorry. Maybe she is acting like she will throw up because she ate too much?? I wouldn't feed he anything else. I would focus on fluids. |
How is she today? Please keep us posted. |
hope she is ok. pls update |
update Well I called the emergency bet last night. They told me that potatoes are not harmful and to watch for swelling. They said that reason she is coughing and acting like she is throwing is because it was hot. She threw up last night around 2am and went poppy. Still eating treats but no regular dogwood or a lot of water. When I woke up I have her some white rice and she are that. She seems to have a hard time swallowing, I am sure her throat hurts Later I am going to make some rice with chicken broth to get some fluids down her. |
Wow, I am glad she is better......I am surprised that she would eat some thing so hot! How about an ice cube or frozen chicken broth to lick. It would cool and give him fluids! |
If she has internal burns from the potato, it could become infected and make her very sick. She should really be checked over by a vet. The cold fluids last night were to cool the potato down to prevent it from continuing to cause any internal burning. |
