Grooming Accident, Ear Cut :( 1 Attachment(s) Our cute Moki had an accident at the groomers which we discovered after picking her up. I have some questions and would like to hear your input: 1- What should we do with this groomer? Who not only ruined her ear but also never said a word about it. 2- Should we put anything on it? She does not seem to be bothered by it when I touch it. 3- Will the ear back to its original shape or will that indentation be there for the rest of her life. Thank you community!! |
 To the vet! |
Sadly this happens a lot with groomers who are not careful. These pups are squirmy and it takes a skilled groomer to avoid this. It will probably always have an indentation....I would not shave the ears any more...simply tip the ends and you will never see this. You really should have a vet check it if it stays inflammed because it could become infected. . Keep it clean and dry in the mean time. |
AND, I would contact the owner of that grooming salon and report this! |
Poor Moki! Definitely go to the vet ASAP for meds to aid healing and prevent infection, which could lead to more damage to the ear. Sadly, the damage to her ear flap is permanent. The groomer should pay Moki's vet bills at the very least. The failure to tell you about this injury is grossly irresponsible and delayed proper vet care. Is this an independent groomer or a pet store groomer? I'm not sure what I would do, but I would start with the vet bills and a strong letter of complaint. |
Oh my goodness. Accidents I'm sure happen but I wouldn't be so forgiving with her not telling you. I would call her about it. Not like she will own up to it maybe but bring it to her attention anyways. |
It won't grow back :( I would definitely head to the vet and then call the owner of the grooming salon. Accidents happen, but you should have been notified! |
OMG poor baby. I would say a vet visit also get it documented and call the groomers. The least they should do is pay your vet bill. I cannot believe they didn't mention it...what in the world did they think, you wouldn't notice:eek: I don't use scissors on my babies ears and I do their grooming myself. I use a tiny pair of clippers. I would be scared as careful as I am of cutting them accidentally. Hugs to you and your baby for having to go through this. |
I can't believe they didn't tell you. I know accidents can happen but they should have been upfront. I would call and complain, ask for your money back for the grooming and vet expenses. I would have my vet look at it. Keep us posted. |

One of my pups has a piece of ear missing from a dog bite. It bled so much it looked like a crime scene. I'm not sure how they got it to stop quickly for your pup. Anyway, my thread is here somewhere. And the piece never grew back. Vet in mrning for clip/clean/AB (unless it starts gushing, then you may need ER). |

Yes, please go see a vet on this one. That area is so red. It may be infected. Your poor baby. Moki had to have yelped. What a heartless groomer to not only not tell you, but to not have called you the instance it happened. The salon def should pay the vet bills. |

Using scissors along the edge of the ear, or using clippers that are run down the edge of the ear, with the ear perpendicular to the blade, so that the edge of the ear gets run thru the clipper blade.... I do my own grooming....I am NO groomer, but none of us ever go anypace where it makes any difference, so we are all fine with the job I do!! If you continue to take your babyto a groomer, I would point out the issue you have sustained, and tell the groomer you want the top 1/3 of the ear tipped by "running the clipper off the flattened ear, and to tidy up the edges, the clipper is used to "trap" the hair on the edge, on your finger that is supporting the ear...NOT down the ear edge in a perpendicular method, but across the ear, and right off the edge of the ear onto the supporting finger, which will get the hair that is n the edge. This is probably clear as mud....I cant explane hands on tasks clearly, so you can understand what I am trying to show you....... Sorry about the nick taken out of the babys ear...I would make an appointment at the vet, and on my way to the vet, I would swing by the groomer, show them what was done to her ear, and you WILL be sending her the vet bill you are about to incur! |
