Royal Canine Haptic LS 14 Vet Diet I wanted to know what are your thoughts of this food for my yorkie who may be suffering from liver shunt or MVD. The kibble is sooo big for my small 2lb yorkie. Should i wet it? chop it down in a food processor? |
Royal Canin prescription diets are exceptional and I would do what I needed to do to get it to a managable size for your baby. I have course ground kibble in a food processor, and it works great. I have also wet the course ground kibble with warm water, and they love it....just a little water to make kind of a gravy....... |
My Teddy Bear just had shunt surgery. He is on RC Hepatic ... the canned food and he loves it. You might want to try that instead of kibble. The Hill's L/D is smaller kibble...you could ask the vet if you could use that instead. Or you could do as Yorkiemom1 suggested...either put it in the food processor or add some water. |

I wet royal canin calm in warm water and stir it around. Wait a minute or two and then feed her. I use alot of water (3oz) sometimes she eats it whole but she eats every bite. When I got her she was on this small eukanuba stuff and I was afraid she wouldnt eat the bigger one either.. |
I previously used hills LD canned and liked it. Unfortunately there's alot of preservatives in that food and my dog was intolerant to it. I feed home cooked. My dog has MVD. |
Unless you are adding water to the kibble, the food processor doesn't work so well. Mine made very little progress on dry kibble alone. I found it better to put it in a plastic bag and pound with a mallet, and this worked better for us. Once you add water to kibble, you'll have to refrigerate the leftovers. |
My Charlie is on RC hepatic and while he isnt as small as your baby I found it to be not so "rock hard" like some kibble is. He wont eat the can food but it is good for them because it has more moisture and LS/MVD babies need to make sure and have lots of fluid intake. the can food helps to supplement. |
