Looking for some advice for my puppy that fell.
 

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and also the proud owner of Yorkie that is only 3 months old. He has been such a joy to have in my home and I love him more than anything. I was hoping to get some advice because I am a little worried about my pup. My little sister dropped him while trying to put him down last night while I was out of my house, he fell from about 2 or 3 feet onto a tile floor and from what I can gather and didnt really hit his head hard. Last night after the accident she told me he cried for about a minute or so and then just went along. But since then he has been acting noticeably different to me. He has been sleeping alot more than normal and has been just curling up in a little ball next to me or in his crate. He is walking normal, eating normal, going potty normal and does have his little normal play sessions here and there but overall he seems to be lacking a lot of energy and excitement that he had prior to the accident. I brought him to the vet this morning (he had an appointment anyway) and the vet said that he looked okay and that if anything bad happened he would be in so much pain that he would be barking and crying all the time. Although he said he may not be injured badly it didn't mean he didn't get hurt. I am wondering if he is just little shaken up and might get over it in a few days or if i should consider seeking a second opinion from someone. I just care about this little guy so much and he is so young that I would do anything to make sure he is okay, I don't know if they have some sort of X-ray for dogs or something that could tell me for sure i have nothing to worry about? I would appreciate any advice, thank you and much love to all.

If something or someone sustanes a head injury, you watch them very closely. if they at any time develop nausea, vomiting, headache, staggering, high pitched squeal or cry, or lethargy (sleepiness)....any change in neuro vital signs after a head injury can indicate a slow bleed in the head.....Now personally, I am huge proponent of crisis prevention as opposed to crisis management....I like to avoid problems rather than trying to fix them once they have become evident. I would be watching his eyes...are they bright, are they focused, are the not rolling around in his head, are the pupils equal and react to light....as long as all that is OK, and he isnt vomiting or acting drunk or anything weird, I think you are OK....but these babies are fragile and when they fall on a hard surface from 3 feet, it may take a day or so for the brain to swell enough to be noticable....if he gets difficult to wake up from his naps, also that is a bad sign....

Hi My girl fell and broke her leg. She is in the process of recovering. Your dog may be bruised and so she may get tired much easier. also just as an fyi it probably scared her alot so being picked up will freak her out for awhile. After mine fell she would shake whenever she was picked up off the ground. We started saying up and down when we would take her off the ground. Its been two months and she is just starting to be comfortable anywhere off the ground. I agree with others watch her closely for any changes...

Just checking in on your baby...how is he doing?

I would take him in to the vet and have him checked over to just make sure nothing is wrong. Better safe than sorry. Hope that baby is okay.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your advice...you are all so kind. I have been monitoring him very closely and he appears to be fine, and as i previously said i did have him checked by the vet who assured me he was okay. I just get worried very easily because i care so much about him. But he has been running and jumping around playing with his toys, eat/drinking, going potting, and everything appears to be normal. As you have said i think he just got shaken up and we will just have to take this as a very important lesson on how carefully he needs to be treated. I will continue to monitor is health and update you. Thanks for all your help.

I'm not one to preach and I am very relieved that your little one is OK. Please keep watching though, you never know sometimes.

Have you discussed the incident with your little sister? She needs to be told "Hands Off" unless she is supervised. Your parents should be backing you up on this.
