IMHO I would be very careful on taking advice on what meds to give a dog if you have no clue on what the problem. From what i was told the active ingredient in Pepto Bismal was changed a few years back and it contains aspirin, or something that is not good for dogs, my vet told me a little over a year ago not to use it. I also know that sometimes the free or cheap dog turns out to be the most expensive one |

You have done a tremendous job taking care of your babies with all else that you have had on your plate and do not let anyone make you feel otherwise!! She may just have an allergy or cold. It sort of sounds like it with the Benadryl working. |
She may only have something mild, but on the other hand, she may have something much more serious. As others have said, home remedies are never a good option without consulting with a vet. It is important to know dosages among other reasons not to medicate without professional advice. Guessing about a dropper here and there is not safe with little dogs. It is far to easy to overdose one. Hopefully the OP went to the vet today as she said she was and everything is ok with her pup! :) |
I sure hope she is okay. We all get so attached to these little things! |

Hope you are doing okay as well. I am sorry that your plate is so full right now, too. Hope you are doing better. |
Skittish baby This is sort of changing the subject but, I need some advice. I adopted a baby girl after my Roxie died. I was told she was part of a breeding nightmare. She is very skittish still. She is around two years old and was apparently just used for breeding purposes and never given much attention. She has come out of her shell alot, but doesn't want to play or play with toys. She is extremely scared of bad weather. Any suggestions anyone? |

Good idea. Still getting used to the ins and outs. Thanks!:) |

Besides you are giving out WRONG information on medications. My gracious there are several things you have said that would kill people's pet's or make them even sicker. |

Guess I should have read ahead. You are absolutely correct. |
To the OP I hope your baby is starting to feel better. I hope you were able to see a Vet today. |
Looking for an update on Oreo....Hope the vet appt yesterday went well. |
Update on Oreo Vet went great! Oreo was seeming better when I went in with her and the vet said she had a slight fever and was most likely a cold or an allergy, unsure. She did x-rays and didn't see any blockage or anything else to worry about. I took her back home with an anti-emetic and antibiotics. She did good for the day and then last night she began the retching and vomiting mucous again. I am calling the vet again now because when I went in she wasn't doing it so it was only my description. She is so sweet and it breaks my heart to see her so tired and so down. I do have a theory kind of off-kilter and I was wondering if anyone has had this as an issue. I kept trying to think back to the day it started and if there was anything that she got into or changed. The only different thing is that I used a different laundry soap. I will tell the vet as well when I call but I am so confused on what is going on. The antibiotics she gave me is: 50 mg Metronidazole daily and Cerenia. |
It may take time for the meds to work. If you can, get a video of her doing that to show the vet. Metronidazole is a great antibiotic for the GI tract. Cerenia prevents vomiting. So...she thinks this is all her tummy then? I don't the the "cold" diagnosis....and if she is getting meds for her tummy.....does she perhaps think a food allergy? I don't think the laundry detergent would do that, but you never know. |

My apologies! Quote:
I am sorry that things got so emotional. One thing to remember is that when typing responses, it is hard to determine emotion in typed word so that one statement from one person may sound like an admonition to another. I am sorry that I got so emotional, just desperate and confused and deeply in love with my babies. One thing I can say about everyone on this thread is that we all seem to love our dogs. SusieQ, thank you for your support, LadyJane, thank you for your informative concern. I will try to keep in mind the limitations of the typed word. Thank you all and I am sorry if anything I typed caused anyone any issues. I hope we all help eachother in the future and support eachother now! Have a great day all and I will let you know about what the vet says. One thing she did say is that a 1/2 pill of benedryl is ok but NEVER give a dog a decongestant. It messes with them severely and can cause them to go wacko for a while when on it. |

You have nothing to apologize for. So glad your baby is okay |

I'm so glad that you and others you know were able to rescue these poor little pups. That breeder sounds like a horrible person and I wish someone would shut her puppy mill down. She obviously has no love for the little dogs she breeds. Does her breeding factory have a name? |
