Prayers are still going out. |
Prayers are with you My oldest yorkie (Cosmo) is about 9 yrs old. He too this year came down with the same illness. His started out as vomiting on a Sunday afternoon. After about 3 or 4 bouts that afternoon I rushed him to my vet and she wasn't sure if he was going to make it. When his labs came back my vet said that she wasn't sure if he would pull through. She stated that she had never seen labs that bad on a dog who was still alive. He ended up on IV's, pain meds and a ton of medicines. For the first couple of days - I sat in the vets office, by his cage, and held him in my lap for 3 or 4 hours while he slept. When I went back after the second day - there he was standing in his cage with his ears up and his tail a wagging. Talk about relief. The vet said that even one episode of vomiting could put these little ones into a very sick situation. She sent me home with meds for the vomiting and meds for the Pancreatitis and said that if he starts with even one episode of vomiting to start him on the meds immediately and if he didn't seem better after 6 hours - he needed to be brought in immediately. Since that time - we have had two more episodes of pancreatitis. By having the meds on hand---he has not gotten as sick as the first time. He is also on a very strict diet and he is not allowed to have treats from my plate, etc. He pancreatitis was set off from one of the treats that you can get them for the tarter buildup. Now I just brush my yorkies teeth with a dog paste---and they hate it but.......I really hope all goes well with you baby. prayers are with you It is so hard seeing them ill. |
OMG....they just called with the morning update and my Georgie is coming home TODAY!!! They said he is much, much better and walking all around the ICU this morning. :) Oh, I am just beyond thrilled!!!! |

Thrilled to hear the great news about Georgie!! Those little stinkers worry us to death. |
wonderful news so are both your babies home now? |
All THREE are home now! Teddy Bear, George and Sunny D. The med times here are exhausting though...omg I feel like I am running a yorkie infirmary.:eek::eek: Oh...and Sunny's tube feedings are every six hours right now. They will go to eight in a few days. I have not been successful in getting him to eat on his own, but he did it at the hospital...so I hope soon. They gave him chicken...which is ok BUT not good for permanent food for him so I am hesitant. |
Does he only have to have the feeding tube until he will eat all on his own? and is there a time frame that they want that to be in? |

On a different note, your yorkie infirmary comment made me chuckle because I am imagining you with a nursing cap on, kind of like what you see in the movies. ;):D |

This is crazy, Lisa. I bet it would be a great reality series. |
I am so glad all your "babies" are home with you. Take care of yourself. |
YAY George, I am glad you're feeling better buddy. From experience I can tell you Pancreatitis is scary!! When you think your dog is sick do just as Linda did and take it to the VET ASAP!!! |
So glad to hear Georgie is home sending prayers for his continued improvement. |
I just now seeing this and am so thrilled to see George, Sunny D, and Teddy Bear are now home. You're so right, Pancreatitus is a very serious illness. I'm so happy to know that George has such a caring mommy. ;) Praying for God to give you the strength to care of all your precious babies. |
Just wanted to check in on George, hope he is doing good at home. |
Linda, I haven't been on YT a lot, and was sad to see all that you have been going through, but very HAPPY to see all three are home and on the mend. I wish you all well, and hope the recovery continues, and hope you are able to take care of yourself too. You must be drained. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to all! |
Dear Ladyjane (Linda), I just logged on today to find out more about pancreatitis. One of my three Yorkies, three year old Bijou, was just diagnosed with it. I cried my way through all your posts-and the supportive posts from the YorkieTalk members-about your sweet George. I am so happy and relieved to hear that your little baby came through it!! Bijou, although described by the vet as having "off the chart pancreatitis" did not need to be hospitalized. They put fluid under her skin, sent me home with 3 meds (one for upset tummy, one for diahrea, and one for vomiting) and she is on a chicken and rice diet for the next 5 days. She seems OK now (frisky self again) but I am so frightened. She has never had human food, only a very good, low fat kibble-Wellness. But still she has contracted pancreatitis. Again, what you and little George have gone through touched me so deeply, and I am so happy he is getting better!! |

Keep us posted on Bijou's progress...do hope she continues to do well. :) |

George was seen by the specialist today. They did an ultrasound and the pancreatic mass is still present and unchanged in size. The only way of knowing if it is cancerous would be to do a biopsy and that won't be done since the only thing to do then would be surgery with a poor prognosis. He is doing fantastic (eating well, no vomiting and no diarrhea) so we will just continue to watch him. While I am hopeful it is not cancerous, I don't plan on doing anything invasive with my little man. |

For what it is worth, I am right there with you with this decision. Prayers for guidance and strength and a unexpected healing, for you and your little warrior.... |

Praying George continues to do well :) |
Sending prayers and best wishes to Linda and her "little warrior." |
George is having diarrhea again. It has been going on for three days...nothing out of control. Just the normal times for a BM, but nasty ones :( . My vet put him back on metronidazole and that has done nothing so far. He is on a home cooked diet and that is not new, so I am sure it is not his food. I called the specialist and they want to do a repeat ultrasound to check that pancreatic mass again. :( So, he will be going there early tomorrow morning as a drop off. Please keep my little baby in your thoughts and prayers. |
