I can not put my finger on it Mina got up this morning, not wanting to eat, walking in circles around my feet, wanting to be held, cannt sit still. I got her to eat part of an egg and she was still figitty,so to the vet. No temp,no hard tummy,no loose stool. She and I played and had a grand time last night. No jumping, just running and chasing and tug of war with a toy. My vet gave me ammoxicillen for her and said that I could give her rimidel, but I dont give pain meds unless I know why. I did start her on the antibiotic, not my favorite thing to do. If she isnt better in a day or two or gets worse we will be going back. Soooooooo, anybody got any ideas? Suggestions? If I have to go back I would like to have some ideas,so I can have a decent conversation with the vet. |
It is so hard when we can't put our finger on what is bothering them but we know they are off. Sending prayers and best wishes. What is the ammoxicillen for just curious? |
Sorry he's not feeling well. How old is Mina? Does she do this often? Did the vet run any bloodwork? That's where I would start.... and maybe an abdominal xray... Hope she's feeling better soon! |
The amoxicillin is just incase. Blood work will happen Wed or sooner if she isnt better. Im thinking a UTI,she has had one before but it has been a over a year and she hasnt been any further than her backyard. She did run to the door when I came in a few minutes ago,but turned down her cookie. Guess I will have to get busy in the kitchen,I have 2 chickens to boil for the dogs,,,well and the family too. |
I hope you baby is better soon! |
Dogs frequently mask even severe pain due to their genetic hereitage and canine ways. She could be hurting so I think I would give a couple of doses, one after the other per the instructions your vet gave, to see if she does better. That alone could be diagnostic - to see if the pain Rx. helps her in any way and that could give you an idea if it is pain. Otherwise, you might get her joint x-rays to see if she's got early joint problems - deformity, spur formation or lipping, etc.. It could be her back or neck discs, tumor pain, any number of issues but she is definitely telling you that she's not right. I suspect she might be hurting and like another suggested, I would get blood and urine panels to see if anything is too low/high. But I would give her the pain Rx as she sounds uncomfortable and I know you want her out of any pain, whether you know its etiology or not right now. People are often treated with pain medicine to keep them comfortable while tests are being done or the doctor is trying to figure out what is wrong. |
This evening she pooped,I brought it inside so I could look at it,ick. I was pretty normal except for very last,it had what looked like thick mucus. Im wondering if the chewies have given her a tummy bug. So I will be picking these up,none of the other dogs seem to be having problems, but they are older and have tuffer tummys. After dinner she was ready to play,as usual. Im giving her dinner time to settle and then we will play a little for 15 or 20 min,but not like we usually do. Good ole chicken and rice with peas and carrots for dinner this evening. I will keep ya'll updated. Thank you for the advice on the pain meds. I wasnt holding them long term, just wanted to see if the antibiotic is going to help. Most pain meds mess her tummy up. I did get some pediolite, yogurt plain and baby turkey at the store today, just to keep on hand. |
Those chewies could do it. Tibbe gets trouble when he chews them usually. Maybe her little tummy and intestine are cramping and she just feels bad. Usually antibiotics can also give Tibbe mucus in his stools and I hate for him to have to take them. But as long as the mucus is there, I'll bet that is connected to her trouble and acting like she's not feeling so well. I sure hope you can get to the bottom of it. It is such a worry when these babies are not quite right. Bless her heart, I hope that she starts to feel better soon, soon, soon. |
Praying Mina feels better soon and you are able to find out the cause. |
Thank you everyone. Mina seems to be back, mostly,to normal. She at her kibble for breakfast and has played. I threw all of the chewies away that were out and scrubbed the kongs that they are stuck in ( so she cannt choke). The funny thing is,the chewies that I usually get,I figured out were from overseas. I purchcased KONG brand because they are from US hides although put together in Mexico. They dont have as much salt in them and therefore the dogs dont like them as much. Usually a chewie lasts about 3 hrs around here, not 3 days. So from now on they will be thrown out before bedtime,no leftovers. I appreciate everyones responses. It was nice to feel like I had friends that cared about Mina as much as I do. I couldnt even think straight yesterday,I was so distracted thinking about what on earth could of made my baby ill. |

Glad to hear Mina is feeling better and so is Mommy! |
I'm glad she's feeling better. Sounds like she bit off a chunk and it had a bit of difficulty passing through her intestines. The antibiotics should help her too as any kind of hide type chew will carry bacteria with it. The mucous is part of the lining of the intestine that gets shed whenever there is a tummy problem. Hope she continues to improve. |
glad mia is feeling better well wishes for continued improvement. |
