doggie seizures One of my dogs have already had 3 bad seizures that I know of in her life! I am hoping that there is a natural product that can treat her, instead of the horrible drugs they use to treat dogs today! Any suggestions! I will seek a professional to look at her soon too! Thanks |

I don't have any experience in this. Has the cause of the seizures been diagnosed? You might want to check into a holistic vet, but only after a diagnosis. Praying for answers and healing for your pup (what's her name?). |

I am hoping someone who has experienced this can help you, but your vet should also at least be able to advise of nearby expertise in natural products. |

I can't fathom trying any holistic measures until you have a vet diagnosis and reason for the seizures. If it is something like hypoglycemia, yes, there are treatments besides medication. If there is an underlying neurological cause, that will have to be treated however the vet recommends. If you are unsure of your vet's diagnosis, I would recommend seeing a specialist like a neurologist. |

Seizures are nothing to mess around with, especially if no firm diagnosis has been made. I would take this pup to a neurologist ASAP as there are conditions in the breed that are life threatening when not diagnosed properly & promptly. AAI, Chiari & Liver Shunt need to be ruled out BEFORE ANY meds of any kind are given. |

Sorry it took so long to get back with this site, but we had Sophie checked out and the description we gave the Vet he did classify as Epilepsy! She comes out of it quickly with not side effects! He would not recommend meds at this time, but he did say if it continues to happen more often we will have to make the call for the Meds! I watch her diet, since I am still wondering if there is a link! Thanks for the comments! |

why do you think epilepsy drugs are "horrible"? My teddy has been on a drug now for two years without any problems. There are progressive vets along with specialists that go for less offensive drugs than the old phenobarbital. I don't like having to medicate my dog ever 12 hours but I would rather do that than come home to a dead dog who has been seizung for 8 hours and has a 108 degree boiling hot body temp. The benefits outweigh the risks and far outweigh the costs and inconvenience. Don't be afraid of seizure medication but do be afraid of untreated seizure disorder. |

I would get your little dog into a neurologist vet as soon as possible and get a firm diagnosis. Early treatment before frequent seizures start can be vital, I understand. Not all seizure medication is terrible. Those with severe cases do have to be treated with heavier doses and several meds which are none too dog-friendly, it is true, but it doesn't sound as if your dog is there. And if your dog has epilepsy or any other type of other condition causing seizures, it needs to be properly diagnosed and treated before a severe seizure actually causes brain damage. As far as I know, no "natural" product treats seizures. |
