signs of collapse trachea?
 

What are the signs of collapse trachea? My yorkies been sounding funny lately, like breathing or wheezing. Like he has a cold. Sounds congested or something. Snoring too. Could it be that?

It could.

I have seen posts about wheezing, people asking about allergies and it ends up being CT.

It could just be a cold or allergies...even an abstruction of some nature.

I'd seek veterinary help first thing in the a.m. unless breathing seems very labored if so I'd be seeking immediate help.

Does your Yorkie wear a collar?

You don't use leash and collar for walking right?

No use of a collar, just harness. But I do remember giving raw hide last week thinking it was OK. Been acting funny since then. Threw raw hides out after hearing they were bad to give yorkies. Took him for a walk yesterday, lots of gagging and breathing hard. But last nights sleep he was peaceful, not a sound or peep. Maybe he had obstruction, I'll see when he gets up this morning if he sounds the same.

I totally agree with taking to the vet if it continues! Always be proactive and if unsure, at least call the vet to see if he thinks it needs attention. My vet takes calls during the day or after hours!

Raw hides are bad for all dogs due to their risks: abstruction, toxicity, poisoning, allergens.

I'd see a vet now before the issue can get worse.

I didn't know there was a toxicity problem with them? Can you elaborate on that?
And what do you suggest as far as chewing then? Mine didn't like bully sticks.

My Zada has a collapsed trachea and is on an inhaler and tranquilizers. When she first started with breathing problems, she would make a "honking" sound once in awhile, mainly when she was excited and needed to get a lot more air in. Now she almost continually wheezes like someone with asthma.
My Azrael snores, but doesn't have a trachea problem.
I would consult a Vet. who specialized in internal medicine. We went thru. a gamut of Vet. visits and medications before finally taking her to a specialist. Hope you do find out for sure what the problem is and get a handle on it right away.

A lot of the preservatives both natural and chemical are actually toxic to dog ingredients...some toxic in general.

We use Made in USA antlers only now...well and dental ropes, occasionally a stuffy or recycled pair of jeans.

I was scared to use antlers at first thinking they'd be too hard and damage teeth-not at all though.

My dogs also eat bones-but that's separate as mine are on the BARF diet.

My Tibbe has reverse sneezing when his trachea/pharynx are irritated, apparently from reflux or any irritation of the area from anything - whether a long strip of rawhide getting far along into the area, even if he doesn't swallow it, from jerky treats he was given for a while last winter or from certain medications he takes, such as when he had to take a course of cortisone pills. Whenever his tummy is upset he can start to act like he is RS'ing or have a short episode with it. His vets don't think it is early CT but I am still considering it could be. With the vet's permission, there is an OTC medication I give him that seems to calm the irritation and he stops it. He doesn't seem to have the full honking type situation I've seen in video's on YouTube and such but it's still hard to tell. Thankfully, his bouts of it so far are short and 2 or 3 times a year. Tibbe hacked when he got pneumonia early last year, the hacking like he had a dry cough or was trying to cough up a hair or something. Turned out to be early pneumonia. The cortisone treatment for the pneumonia caused full reverse sneezing bouts and caused tummy upsets.

Can you video your little one doing it and post it or show it to the vet when you take him in for a check-up. It could be any number of things going on so he needs to be checked out by the vet.

I'm glad he is sounding better. Max had an irritated throat from a chew and it sounded like he was choking! We took him to the ER and then to our vet. After a week of antibiotics, he was fine.

Update on sonny. What a scare. I don't think he has ct. He's doing so much better today. No problems breathing, or wheezing. He had a peaceful sleep last night. I'm sure the walk yesterday did him good. I just realized this morning he's been acting weird since I gave him a raw hide bone a week ago. That when he stared sounding funny. I think he had some indigestion problem with it. Maybe stuck in him somewhere. After his walk, he sounded normal again. He must have dislodged it while gagging himself while walking. Thank god!!!
