Pain out of nowhere???? Help please. Lou'e is my first dog - first puppy. He has been doing so well and has acclimated wonderfully to everything so far. But something happened this morning that has me gotten worried sick. He was running around and playing for most of the morning. I then put him on the bed to clean his eyes and then put him down on the floor and I walked out of my room and he soon after followed but he than stopped and started crying soooo loud over and over. I then noticed he couldn't walk and sorta fell over...but then he walked but his left hind leg was tucked in. Does anyone know what this could possibly be? I am worried about my baby. :( Thank you. -Sandra.* |

I can completely relate to being worried its so scary when they are in pain:( I would take him to the Vet ASAP. It could be a number of things from a luxating patella to maybe he stepped on something. I hope he feels better. Please keep us posted. |

Praying for Lou'e's pain to get resolved. I agree, it could be any number of things from LP to a ligament..best to get him into a vet as soon as you can. Please keep us updated on what you find out, ok? Hugs! |

That is so sad and scary too. Hopefully the vet will be able to determine what's going on and get your baby feeling better! |

Thank you everyone. I haven't even had him for two months and the poor thing is in pain! :(( I will get him booked in today. |

 Hoping for good news |

How is Lou'e? Was it his nail? |

Hello everyone - an update here... I took Lou'e to the vet Friday night and after X-rays and pain meds everything serious was ruled out and it turns out that it was just a sprain - thank goodness. The next day he was doing better and even better on Sunday. Thank goodness nothing more serious was going on. Thanks to everyone here for the support. -Sandra & Lou'e* |

Thank you for the update, Sandra! I'm so happy to hear that Lou'e is on the mend. Praying for a speedy recovery. :) |

Did they just let it heal on it's own? Or did they give him pain meds! |
|
Kiki Mama ~ they did give me some pain meds even though the next day he looked fine!! Lol. |
|
Thank you for the reply! We went to the dr this morning for pain in kiki's right back leg! She has LP! My poor baby is so uncomfortable I hope these meds kick in soon! |
|
Oh no ~ I am so sorry. :( Lou'e just had a sprain. Not LP. I hope your little baby starts feeling better soon. xo |
|
Thank you! We may have to have surgery :( |
|
Keeping Kiki in my prayers. Bless her heart. Hope those pain meds help ease her pain. |

Thank you! Her shot finally kicked in and she did more than just lay where ever I sat her down. (Potty pad water bowl) It was breaking my heart! |

How old is she?! Did they tell you what level of LP she has?! |
|
She turned one the end of January and I was wondering about these levels! She told me it was intermediate luxating patella |

Thank you for posting that link it is the best I've seen! In my personal opinion I think she is grade 1 she has yelped a few times in pain for no real reason we could see but Friday night it was over 5 mins after playing extremely hard with my husband! Kiki has some speed in her! Saturday she didn't feel good and was in pain but her shot yesterday has helped. She has rimadyl to take for 2 weeks and if needed we can refill to try to avoid surgery. This morning is she starting to act like herself again slowly so I hope surgery isn't needed. |

Grade I Wouldn't be Intermediate and doesn't need surgery. She would be a II or above. You should definitely find out from the Vet. Hoping the meds. Work and she won't Need surgery. :) |

Also...make sure your vet knows what they are talking about w LP. With my first yorkie Lola I knew nothing about LP. I took Lola in for her puppy well check up...the vet told me she had LP and needed surgery at a crack of upto $2500 per leg. Didn't tell me what grade or anything. I read up on it and that is where I learned that surgery depends on what grade and how the pup handles it...and that if its a grade 1 surgery might have more complications such as arthritis then the LP. Lola never had an issue w her legs ever. Needless to say, I never went back to that vet and my new vet did not find issues w her legs. |
|
I plan to call tomorrow and find out what grade she is and my vet encouraged me to do research to do what we are dealing with and I have a regular appointment in two weeks. I just showed up Saturday and she worked me in. Also gave me her cell if we had any problems with the meds or if my husband had any questions. |
