Small yorkie with 5 newborn pups helppp!!! My Yorkie got pregnant under my brothers care. (Yes I should of had her spayed) but since she only plays with female dogs it didn't cross my mind. Now I have 5 puppies from her. They're growing great gaining weight everyday some more than others then the others more than some. Vet told me to supplement some with milk since she's 5 pound which I do, they only take a couple sips then stop and sleep. As soon as i put them down they go straight to momma to nurse, most puppies hate the bottle and refuse to take it but they are still gaining weight. I give mom supplement and nutrition also puppy can and hard SCIENCE DIET. I didn't know she was supposed to eat puppy food while pregnant and found out literally the day before she gave birth and now she's skin and bones which is why I feed her canned and solids as well. I can use all they advice I can get. Do anyone have a small yorkie that gave birth to 4 or more pups and made it by just nursing? How should I put weight back on her? How much weight should a puppy gain? I have a three month old so I'm running off 3 hours of sleep and 4 cups of coffee. Help please I'm trying to save her and her babies. |
It is normal for momma to lose some weight. The pups take a lot out of her. I would be feeding her puppy food now also. And sometimes if a pup won't suck a syringe works better. But I believe you should call your vet and ask these questions. Share pictures when you can |
Goat's milk is best... cow's milk will cause diarrhea. Watch Mom for signs of calcium deficiency (maybe do a blood test??? IDK) Make sure the smaller pups have equal opportunity to nurse. As long as all are gaining, that's a good sign. Feed Mom as much as she wants, good quality puppy food. |
There are several puppy formulas given to supplement pups....I think they are under the Breeder section.....please mix one of the formulas up and give it to the babies....my formula delivers 14-16 calories/cc, and you give 1cc/oz of bady weight, starting off every 2 hours AROUND THE CLOCK....then advance until you are feeding every 4 hours...this is in addition to what they get from momma.....since she is still feeding and you are just trying to lighten her load a little, you should be safe feeding every 3-4 hours....KEEP THE BABIES WARM OR THEY WILL NOT DIGEST THEIR FOOD.... |

Now I happened to note you are nursing your own baby; is there a breeder friend or former breeder friend that could come in often to help you supplement feed, for sure it seems like you have a lot on your plate right now. I hope everything turns out well. Also you need to check Mama's nipples daily, and respond quickly to changes that might signify mastitis. |
Hi my baby has 5 pups that are just over 2 wks old, not an expert will try and help as know how scary it is. Is your girl feeding well? I know Molly was off her food for the first few days but now she would me if I sat long enough bless her, I have not needed to feed her pups at all if they are all gaining weight some will gain more than others. I was really protective of Molly and really did not give her credit for how good and I mean really good that she instinctively knows what to do unlike humans. Let me know how you get on best of luck |
Missed a word eat me.. I got Molly to eat at first by giving her small amounts of plain food rice and chicken, your baby will look small as they are huge when pregnant and it's now gone overnight. She now eats wet puppy food by the tins I'm in the UK so not sure what brand you would use where you are. |
