Anyone deal with Melanoma? My groomer found a suspicious area on Daisy's foot. I took her to the vet last night and she said it is most likely Melanoma. We have her scheduled to take it off next week but I can't help but worry. They said in dogs they are not usually a problem unless in the mouth. So my vet feels Daisy will be fine. I hope my little girl does ok during the procedure. It will be a conscious sedation in the office and will not require her to go under gas anesthesia but there are always risks especially in a 12 year old sickly yorkie. Anyone else have to deal with this?? |
Yes, one of my fosters had melanoma; and it is true that it really is not a big deal in dogs unless it is in the mouth. When I first saw it, I freaked. Having been an oncology nurse, I knew immediately what it was. I was surprised to hear how different it is in dogs. I am sure Miss Daisy will be fine! :) |

I just worry about the sedation. She's next had the conscious sedation but they said they do it every day and will be monitored and they were like 'no biggie' so I supposed it will be ok. I really like the new vet too. |

I am sure the sedation will be fine....much better to use conscious sedation I would think. So glad you found a vet that you are happy with. Hard to find one that you can fully trust. I have been SO lucky, but I have had to use others when mine is off and I see the difference. |

I noticed another black spot on Daisy's nose too but this one is flat. I'm worried she has multiple melanoma sites. |

Cathy, I just wanted to let you know that Daisy is on my prayer list. I'm sure she will come thru the procedure with flying colors and be all better. I know it's still scary for you - Keeping your peace of mind in my prayers, also. |

My 9 year old Lab (Duke) was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma about a year ago. But it is in his jaw. So we weren't so lucky. We did have the tumor removed & even though it was removed from his mouth, his recovery from the surgery was amazing. As soon as the drugs wore off, he was back to his old self :) I was soooo nervous about the surgery. But your vet is right...it really is "no biggie". I'm sure that Daisy will be fine with the procedure, especially since it's not in her mouth. I'll keep little Daisy in my prayers. Even IF the patch on her nose is melanoma, the cutaneous melanomas on the toes and face are very easily controllable. She's very lucky that you noticed it right away. Good luck next week! I'm sure she'll be fine! |
Good Morning, Sasha my 12 yr. old Yorkie is having a growth removed from her ear on the outside. My vet thinks its a melanoma, he will do a CBC and organ profile. Do not like putting her under gas anesthesia. Anyone else have this happen. So nervous, I can't think straight. Thanks, Stephanie |

Sounds like your vet is being thorough...I am sure she will be fine. Let us know how it goes! Welcome to YT! :) |
Very sorry to hear you're having to deal with this :(. You and Daisy will be in my thoughts. I'm glad to read, though, that for the most part this cancer has a great potential for a positive outcome -- that's gotta be such a relief. I'm hoping for the very, very best!!! |
Thanks for the feedback for my question !!!! |
