Zoey has Lymes Disease I posted a thread on here yesterday telling about how strange my dog was acting. I took her to the vet today, and turns out she has Lymes Disease. She's on antibiotics, and the vet wants to do a follow up blood test in 30 days. She wants me to bring in a urine sample sometime, preferable before the 30days, to check her kidneys. I read that Lymes Disease can cause kidney failure, so that is a whole new thing for me to worry about. What is the likelihood of Zoey getting kidney failure from Lymes Disease? She's 4yrs old if that matters. |
I'm so sorry to hear that Zoey has Lyme's disease. Poor baby. I don't know anything about it, so have no advice. I'll say a prayer that she comes through this and has no side effects. |
Sorry about Zoey being sick. Thank goodness you took her to the Vet and began treatment. I know if not treated it can cause organ failure. I hope one of the YTers that have medical info. read your questions and can help answer your worries. |
Sorry to hear about this... she's never had a Lymes vaccine? |
Jackson came up limping one day randomly, took him to the vet, and after x-rays and determining nothing was sprained or broken, etc, his Lymes test came back positive. We did 30 days of doxycycline, and about a week of pain meds. Within 1 hour of taking meds, he was not limping anymore. He now has tested negative for lymes for the past 3 tests. He is 4 years old. This happened when he was about 2. No problems or further issues came about!! I am sure Zoey will be fine! :) We do not do lymes vaccine. Too new for my liking, doesn't protect against all strains, and it's easy enough to treat when found early. My vet did not advise getting it at the time either. We use preventatives as needed (K9 advantix). |
How is your pup doing? I know its a busy time right now and you have your hands full with the pup so I just hope your both doing fine! |
Georgie had Lymes as well. When the vet told me I cried I felt so bad but after we talked I knew he would be fine with meds. He actually had no symptoms so I was surprised when it came back positive. He was vaccinated for Lymes and still got it. He was 4 when he got it as well and is 7 now and there was no issues. Hope Zoey feels better in no time:) |
Any dog that has had a Lymes Vaccine will test positive for the disease... |
My Dexter had Lyme's disease, and I had NO idea. He did not have any strange behavior at all. He was 5 years old at the time. I felt HORRIBLE when the vet called me. I had just brought my boys in their annual check up, they did blood work and called me later to tell me. He was on antibiotics for 30 days, doxycycline, meat flavored, he loved it, thank goodness. 30 days later back for more bloodwork and he was good to go! No liver problems at all. Good luck to you! I'm sure your baby will be fine! :) |
