Really worried about Milo :( Hello i really need to talk to someone. :( I have a 3yr old Yorkshire Terrier, named Milo. Unfortunately Milo has been extremely poorly lately and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. Last Friday, he vomited blood and was walking around the garden squatting but could not poo (sorry). He went to the vets and was kept in on a drip and anti-acids. They let him out late the next day, he wouldn't eat or go to the toilet because he was stressed there. His tummy was still sore to the touch but they put it down to constipation. The next day he did a poo but it was runny - they said this was okay as he had no food in him. As soon as he came home he was eating, but limited to chicken and rice for the week. He seemed back to normal, his normal perky self. However this Friday, a week later, his eyes were runny / sticky. I thought he had the start of an eye infection. Later that evening I had bathed his eyes and they remained clear. We went for walk, and suddenly, 10 minutes in, he started "sneezing" constantly, and couldn't breathe. Being a yorkie he sometimes reverse sneezes due to his soft palette, but only when he is excited. This wasn't the same. He couldn't move without sneezing and his chest was wheezy. I took him straight home and he settled for the night. The next morning he was the same. His chest was rattly, he couldn't move or yawn etc without snuffling or sneezing, and he didn't want to eat. I took him back to the vet. She listened to his chest etc and felt his throat. She said his throat was swollen etc. She then said he may have lung worm!! She didn't do a fecal sample or look at his lungs at all. She also gave him antibiotics incase it is a respiratory problem / bug instead. I really don't know what to do. He is not eating much (he normally lives for food), and he's currently being kept on rest. I run a dog day care service and have closed the business for now. Vet told me if he's stopped sneezing by monday I can re-open as I have clients booked in for boarding over christmas period. I just don't know what to do, or what is right, I just want him better. I feel emotionally drained from the worry of him being so sick last weekend , then relaxing thinking he was out of the woods, then him being so poorly again. I'm sorry for the rant, I'm just stressed and frightened and needed like minded people to talk to. :( |
oh i am so sorry your little guy is so sick. has your vet done a complete blood panel yet? i dont know much about lungworm but has your vet actually tested him for that and/or given him meds for it ? i sure hope they can find a solution soon... saying a prayer for your little one |
Wow I don't blame you. Doesn't sound like your vet is worried enough. Can you take him to another vet that will do more? Something is wrong you need to find out what. Are any of the dog care dogs sick? |
Personally, I would get a second opinion even if I had to drive far to do it. |
Thank you. He is still so poorly. Vet has done no blood tests or even fecal tests to actually confirm Lungworm so I don't even know if it is or if its a respiratory infection that is contagious. My business is currently closed to be safe and prevent spread just in case. However no other dogs who have mixed closely with him daily are poorly. Which is what makes me think and worry its something wrong with HIM. We are going to get a second opinion and hopefully further tests - it is such a shame as I respected my vet but feel so let down when it is most important. Thank you for your support, I need it right now. |

I know how you feel as do all the others here. It is so scary when our babies are sick. A second look by another vet will no doubt be helpful. He'll have the initial findings from your vet to go on, your history plus he will no doubt do more testing. With Yorkies, so often when one thing goes wrong, another will. When Tibbe goes on antibiotics, for instance, he then gets tummy/GI troubles and has to be treated for that! Plus, as they can't talk, some of vetting really can be hit-or-miss, trying to help them if testing isn't very conclusive. It's very frustrating and worrisome. Try to stay strong and know that almost certainly they will be able to find out a treatment program and that, with time, should help him out a lot. |
Yes I know what you mean we put our trust in them. But I agree second opion needed. Glad to hear no other dog is sick. Worried your pup may caught something from one of them. Hopefully this next vet will get to the bottom of what's making your pup sick we are here for support |
praying for milo.. i hope you get some answers from the new vet and milo can feel better soon.. |
Poor Milo. Hope the next vet gets to the bottom of it. Praying for Milo and you. |
Praying for you and poor milo. It is so when they are sick |
So sorry he is sick please keep us updated. |
I'd just take a fecal in and make sure they run a test anyways. I hope you get answers and he improves-sometimes you gace to be the pushy dog mom and demand action. |
Thinking about you folks and Milo. Praying that things are better. |
How did the second opinion go? I hope you received the answers |
Hope you get a 2ond opinion ASAP....I hate it when they don't do a thorough exam and give a diagnosis. |
