They think My Mitsi might need surgery?? advice anyone? Hi everyone, I have a 3 year old Yorkie named Mitsi, Shes not spayed yet, I was saving up to get it done (it costs so much unless You go to a free clinic and then its risky for Her since Shes small). Well She went into heat, 2 and a half weeks ago, about half way through She started peeing often into Her diaper. No matter how often We take Her out She just keeps on peeing. So We took Her to the vet and they said it could be a uti and put Her on antibiotics. Well They said now that if She does not get better it could be 3 or 4 things that Surgery might be needed. anyone else ever been though this? I am freaking out big time. I love My Fur Baby I cant bear the thought of something happening to Her. Should I seek another vets opion? |
I don't have any experience with this, Zhoie was spayed at 7 months. I would see another vet without delay, do you have a vet school in your area. Sending prayers for your girls well being and hope you find some answers. |
sadly no We have no schools around, just this bus that does spays for free called rover but Ive heard so many horror stories of infections and things from them I cant bear the thought of them having Her. Ive called several and just for them to look at Her at the other vet I know personally its going to be 100 plus another 200 for the tests and things then 300 more for surgery. and I dont have that kind of money.if it comes down to it Il have to sell something My car most likely |
Oh my, I hope you can find a way to get the care you girl needs. I know getting testing and all for these little ones is extremely expensive. They are a wonderful breed, even the normal routine care is costly. I hope you can find means to get her the treatment she needs. |
Second opinions are always good, but I don't understand the guessing. If money is an issue and you are not getting the necessary tests done, then that leaves a vet hampered in making a diagnosis. If that is the case, then a second opinion is not yet in order. I would suggest that you apply for Care Credit and see if the vet you are going to accepts it....if not, then find one who does. CareCredit Healthcare Finance - Payment Plans and Financing for Cosmetic Surgery, Dental, Vision, Hearing, Veterinary & Other Medical Procedures You can apply online. If not, then perhaps talk to family and friends to see if they can help you out. Good luck! Your girl definitely sounds like she needs veterinary care sooner rather than later. |

Second opinions are good, but it might not be the best idea to spend more money on that when this vet has done nothing wrong. They are right. UTI is most common in this case. If it is not (confirmed by culture)m then other things need to be ruled out. Depending on whatit is surgery may be needed. If the vet is telling you that she needs to be spayed immediately it really should be done. Some clinics are better than others when it is done for free. Usually you still have to do preop bldwork through your regular vet first anyway. They need to be following a safe anesthetic protocol, etc. I agree with you. This is usually not ideal and care is not as individualized. |
Have you checked around to see if there are any other assistance programs other than the "bus"? Our SPCA offers very inexpensive spay & neuter. There are also some animal foundations in our areas that will assist families with the medical costs of a sick pet. Google those in your area, maybe there are some other options that can help you. |
