She is just precious! Love the Christmas outfit! Looks like she's had a long day in the post-surgery pic..needs some sleeps ;) |
AWWW she is just a dolll baby. I am glad that the surgery is over and all is well. I will continue prayers for her healing and recovery. |
1 Attachment(s) Annie had a rough night whining and whimpering. I don't think she can figure out what happened to her. She is continuing to eat chicken and drink water which is great. When we took her out to potty this morning she actually is trying to make movement of the leg. She isn't putting weight on it but is going through the motions. I am totally exhausted from the night, but am excited to see a little improvement. Here is a picture that I took about 2:00 this morning. |
Awww, Annie's just tired and groggy. Try talking to her and treating her like any other day and she'll come on back to being herself soon :) |
They do that whining because of the anesthesia. Hopefully tonight will be a better one for both of you.. |
So glad Annie's surgery went well! I hope she starts feeling good soon! |
Sending good, healing thoughts your way and I bet tonight will be better! She's adorable. |

just reading this.. glad she is doing better and sending good thoughts and prayers your way btw... it will get better.. |
Thanks so much everyone for all your positive energy and healing prayers!!! I am soooo happy to report that Annie is having a better evening tonight. She is finally able to relax without the little whimpering and whining and restlessness. Crazy as it seems she is actually asleep quite well right now on the hip that was operated on. Don't know how it can be comfortable to have pressure on but I am not going to move her. I was going to take some videos today of her but she didn't go outside until it was too dark and that was only once. I am hoping to give her a little walk around the family room tomorrow if she feels good enough. YAY!! I am sure tired tonight though due to the rough night last night. Well I will give you an update tomorrow. Thanks again for the support!! |
So happy to hear that you and Annie had a better night! They really are amazing, aren't they? |
The rehab was to build up the muscle in the thigh area. The leg will swing freely until that muscle gets stronger. As to the whining and crying that is why I am glad the surgeon kept her for 5 days at their home. It is hard to deal with their pain. The walk/hop start slowly and add a minute each day. This is a long process but very necessary and it is done at home not at a rehab center. I was given instructions and the dr's nurse (rehab nurse) was on call all the time. Hope we never have to do the other side. |

Thanks so much for your advice!! I am going to start a little walking with her today in our family room. Great advice. I am hoping and praying we never have to have the other hip done also. |
Day 2 after surgery. Well we had quite the little evening with Annie. I fell asleep for 2 hours last night and the little turkey decided she was going to lick her incision. I don't know how she was able to get to it. We had her Kiss-E collar on and everything. She was flexible enough to get the Kiss E Collar to move just enough to lick one of the staples. She got one of them partially out. SOOOO. back to the vets office this morning we went. They had to remove the staple and then put another one back in. They also put a rigid cone on her head so it doesn't happen again. Poor little peanut she is now just hanging her head so sad. |
Zoey had dissolvable stitches, thank goodness. Did you talk with your vet about exercise? The way it worked for me was start at 5 minutes walking very slowly so she would have to use the leg. Everyday add one minute until you get to 30 minutes, twice per day. I know it is not easy but it is was is necessary for recovery. After you reach 30 minutes twice per day then we started a "ladder" exercise. These were pvc pipes put together like a ladder. Lay it flat on the ground and have her step over the ribs starting at 5 minutes adding one minute until you reach 15 minutes. Next, the ladder if flipped over with a higher step and you start off with five minutes again building up to 15 mintes. Whew, I glad to be finished with that. Then you go for your walk. Whew, I glad to be finished with that. I can tell you that I got in shape after 5 months of this schedule. lolol |
