Poop stuck! Howie will not poop normally, it is so frustrating and makes me worried. He has had constipation problems before and it cost us a lot of money at the vet. He also has very little teeth so he can't really chew kibble we have for him. The vet said that having him just eat chicken was ok as long as we add fiber solution to each meal, which we have. But he still only poops about every 2 days and will only go if we take him on a walk! This past week he has had tummy aches but they go away. Then today when he was on his walk, he tried to poop but it got stuck. This has happened before and we took him to the vet and they gave him an enema which he had a bad reaction to so I do not want to do that again. So is this constipation problem or is his stool just too soft? HELP! I know it has to do with his diet but his teeth limit our options, is there any like softer kibble or canned food that won't upset his sensitive stomach? Because he gets loud rumbling noises in his stomach like 3x a week so he gets upset tummy aches. |
What about a little canned pumpkin? I know that it has helped my Mikki when she was constipated. |
what is the fiber content is his food, chester needs at least a 4%, green beans are fiber as well |
You can soften kibble with warm water....then he can eat the kibble and get the fiber he needs...give him the canned pumpkin too....I would do that on a routine basis, like a little every other day, and skip if he is getting too loose. |
i had major issues with my new furr kid Keylo when she arrived. to the point of having to put her in a warm bath to pass her bowels. my vet suggested mineral oil and gave me the amount to add to her food once a day. this worked wonders and now with a healthy diet shes off the mineral oil but just a suggestion incase you vet thinks this might help you. good luck i hope you find a solution. |
I use organic sweet potato baby food in the squeezable little bag type things they have out now and mix like a quarter or half dollar size drop on Guinness's food at least every other day or third day... Might even be ok everyday in quarter size amount but that helps get the food moist and pumpkin is a natural puppy laxative :) |
