flea medication causing nervous tremor--we're scared! New to the forum, sorry if I'm double-posting but I'm desperate to know if my Chicalina is OK. Administered drops last night, she developed an involuntary twitch across her back shortly thereafter. It spans the area just below her shoulders. She's trying to bite at the area, it seems out of annoyance as opposed to pain. She ate her supper, is drinking water, normal urine, dark/oily bowel movement. Should she see her vet? Do I wait a few days to see if it goes away? I've resisted poisonous treatments ever since heartworm meds twice made her sick (hospitalized). But my vet insisted I give her a flea treatment because fleas were so bad in this area this year and I spotted one on her recently. |
I would say a call or visit to your vet would be my best advice |
I would take her to the vet if she were mine, especially if she had reactions in the past to heartworm meds. Maybe get him to do some bloodwork. I don't know if it would help but I would also give her a bath to try and get some of the Advantix off of her skin. Has she always had dark/oily stools? i would sure mention this to him too. Let us know what the vet says. |

Take her to the vet. they will know better what is worng with her if there IS anything. PLease keep us updated. |
It must've been topical since you say drops...give her a bath, it might relieve whatever sensations it's giving her. Some pups are more sensitive then others. If the skin is raw & red, take her to the vet asap. |
Vet visit. |
Take her to vet |
I would def. call your vet. We just took our new pup, Rocky, 2.6 pounds off of tresaderm. Tresaderm was prescribed for his ear mites and were administered through ear drops. He became extremely hungry, not playful, moody, and his eyes were glazed over. Took him to the vet and he said he could administer Revolution, and I asked if he would have a reaction to that. He threw his hands up and said little dogs have reactions that bigger dogs don't. Anyways, I think some little dogs can't handle conventional medicine, and need alternatives. Needless to say we are taking our pup to a holistic vet to seek out alternative treatments. Basically, our one vet didn't know how to help him. |
