Advantix Hi all, Chicalina and I are new to this forum, so please excuse any mistakes I may make when addressing all of you. We inherited our baby girl from a woman who could no longer care for her, we instantly fell in love of course. She weighs 5.6 pounds, is healthy and active. Unfortunately, not being a seasoned dog person, I have twice given her a full dose of heartworm medication, both times she was very sick and hospitalized. We stopped using heartworm meds, and at the same time stop using flea/tick poisons. My vet convinced me to give her a half doze of Advantix to ward off fleas, claiming she'd be fine. Well, she feels OK (other than having that awful, poisonous metallic breath), but there's a spot on her back, just below her shoulder that won't stop twitching, like it's a nerve gone crazy. I'm sick that I feel I've been bamboozled into poisoning her once again. After this I'm going back to my homeopathic vet, I swear! Please share your thoughts about: the twitching/should I bring her to her vet? heartworm and flea poisons-are they ever safe for small dogs? which alternatives do you use? Thanks for your input! |
Hello and welcome! Congrats on your newly adopted baby, Yorkies are a very special breed!! Hm I am confused, I give my Peanut which weighs 4.5 a full dose of Advantix II, He get the under 10lbs application. Do you know which weight you gave her? I would take her into the Vet to get her twitching spot checked out- Those types of poisons are safe you just have to make sure you use the correct amount. |
Since my two are highly allergic to flea bites, I MUST use Advantix on them. Luckily we've never had an issue with it. I'm sorry that your girl has had trouble with the meds:( I've never heart of a muscle twitch being a side effect:confused: but would definitely talk to the vet about it. Oh, and WELCOME:D! |
I'm sorry to hear you haven't had luck with preventatives. We do flea/tick/heartworm meds only during the warmer months here, but we don't have the infestation problem that a lot of people have throughout the year. I would definitely talk to your vet about the problems... Maybe your pup is having an allergic reaction to the meds? |
Id talk to your vet about it. If you dont feel your vet is right go to another vet. Welcome to YT :) |
