Allergy testing Hi, I have a 5 year old yorkie that has horrible allergies. I had her tested yesterday and am awaiting the test results. Has anyone had test done and what are your experience with the testing and the shots? |
Hi, Sorry to hear about your little one's allergy. I have an allergic baby but haven't done the allergy test yet. She was scraped to rule out mites. We have the special shampoo and sprays and lotions and hydroxyzine doesn't really help her so vet gave her prednisone. She eat's a grain free diet and i have notice she is sensitive to certain proteins like chicken, beef, turkey. Good luck with your little one and please post when you get your results. |
We did the testing. I think it's a great option especially if it's a young yorkie who needs year round help w/ allergies. The shots can be tough, even with these tiny ones....get a lot of training for the shots. :) |
I got Maddie's allergy testing back. She is allergic to dust mites. They recommend treating anything that comes back over 150 and hers was 900. I told the vet to order her shots so that we can begin to give them asap. She's really not scratching as much since the heat has come on and we have has some frost on the ground. I read that mites like humidity so maybe the dryer heat has reduced their numbers. I am looking into ordering some hypoallergenic covers for her bedding. |
Oh gosh :(, that's a bummer since dust is just everywhere. At least you now know what it is though. I sure hope the shots work wonderfully. Please keep us posted. Btw, have you thought about a HEPA filter? Those are supposed to help...not cheap though. |
