Taycie was diagnosed with MVD and Enteropathy. It has been a long couple of weeks with alot of emotion involved and I mentally haven't been ready to post anything until I knew what I was dealing with. A few weeks ago I posted about Taycie waking up in the night acting strange and uncomfortable. I could tell something wasn't right. After a few vet visits we decided to rule out a shunt. Initially, my vet didn't think a Bile Acid test was necessary. She only has one liver enzyme that fluctuates everything was normal. I just didn't feel right by the way she was acting.. So I took her in and told them I wanted a Bile Acid test. Her numbers came back abnormal. She then was scheduled for an ultrasound. Her liver however looks wonderful. The BCVR said it was a nice color, nice shape, they were able to trace the blood flow through the liver, nothing was bypassing the liver indicating a shunt. However when we talk about her GI system. It wasn't a pretty picture. It was explained to me that parts in the intestines were thicker then others, thinner in spots, and alot of Inflammation. She said it was a very sick GI tract. Her protein levels are good, but we are watching this as her condition looks like it could possibly develop at some point into Protein Loosing Enteropathy. We had a second opinion today by another Radiologist and basically said the same thing. Taycie's case has also been referred to an Internal Medicine Vet which I was supposed to talk with today but an emergency came up.. I am sure I will be hearing from the soon. I was under the impression there were more then one in Salt Lake, but there isn't. I have also contacted Dr. Remillard and we are doing a Nutritional Consultation to see what we should be doing as far as diet is concerned. As far as meds go we are still doing a small dose of Tylan Powder for her stomach.. And once I am finally able to talk to the Internal Medicine Vet more supplements could get involved. For now, we are trying to keep it easy on her little system. |
I am so sorry about what you are going through with Taycie. You clearly have a tight grip on the situation and I commend you for the steps you have taken thus far! You sound to me like you have all the correct medical personnel involved, and even a nutritionist....these people will be able to coordinate a health care plan for your baby and she will get the optimal results of all your efforts. You are a super attentive momma! Taycie will be the benefactor of your knowledge and diligence! |
oh no :( I hope Taycie feels better soon. Ill be praying for her and you. |
I'm so sorry for what Traycie is dealing with. I can only imagine how emotionally drained you already are. You are a wonderful momma and Traycie is lucky to have you on her side and loving her. :) Will be praying for her. |
I am very sorry Taycie and you are dealing with this, but she is one very lucky little girl to be in your wonderful care. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. I will watch for your updates. |
Prayers for you and for Taycie. I know so well how upsetting it can be when they are not feeling well. I hope she is feeling better real soon! |
Praying for beautiful little Taycie that she can be settled in on a long-term treatment plan to keep her feeling as good as possible. What a long and scary journey you've been on! I know it's been nerve shattering for both of you - dogs don't like having all the things done to them and we're left worrying and waiting while it's all going on. But it sure sounds like you are doing all anyone can do for their baby and she is getting all the care she needs. Taycie is blessed to have you - and of course, you -her. She's such a little doll. I always spend a lot of time looking at your avatar and that precious little face she has. Hold her close, momma, and give her hugs from Tibbe and me. |
Prayers for your little girl and it sounds like you are doing everything you can to give her wonderful care. |
I am so sorry. Sounds like you are doing everything you can for her which is great. Sending prayers and hugs your way. Keep us updated. |
I would nominate you for the ("Good mommy of the year award") I pray that they can find the right meds for Taycie it is so frustrating not knowing what the outcome will be... My sweet little Micah was diagnoised with MVD 3 years ago, and i have worried so much he stayed so frail & skinny until a few months ago he gained some weight and is a little stinker now ;) |
very sorry that taycie is having a hard time. keeping her in my thoughts.. and you also for a solution that works best for you beautiful taycie. |
Sending hugs and good thoughts! |
Keeping you and Taycie in my thoughts and prayers... |
I'm sorry that Taycie and you are facing these issues, but at least now you know. Good for you for not giving up until you got her the testing you thought best:) You are a wonderful Momma to your baby girl. Praying that with diet and the right supplements that Taycie will have a long, healthy life:love: |
Checking in for an update. Hope all is well with Taycie. |
Although this news isn't great, I have faith that you will be able to manage Taycie with the expert guidance and recommendations of these specialists. Taycie is a lucky dog to have you. |
Update for Taycie... She has had a horrible night. She was acting funny after her second Ultrasound... I could tell something was off. About 7 pm she threw up. She wouldn't touch food at all. Because she had to be fasted for the Ultrasound at this point she hadn't eaten in 24 hours. With all the stress these last few weeks with countless visits I felt bad, at this point I was thinking she was stressed out. I called the vet and they said to give her some Cerenia to help the nausea. I gave her some and she curled up and went to sleep. At 1:30 am she woke up drooling uncontrollably ... It was so scared. Taycie started shaking... So I threw some clothes on and and called the ER vet while in the car to let them know we are on our way. They gave her another shot of anti-meds to combat the nausea and sub-q fluids. Blood work was done, along with a ammonia test, and glucose test, thankfully all of which came back normal. I actually happened to have Taycie's Binder in my car of all her medical history. I explained to the vet everything that has been previously diagnosed and she thinks because of the pressure of the radiologist pushing around in her stomach for the ultrasound made can sometimes make them become uncomfortable and very sore. Her GI tract looks pitiful right now.. so It made complete sense. At 3 am we came home and went to sleep. I woke up at 8:30 and tried to get her to eat but she still had no interest. I called my vet and she was admitted for the day. She got another anti nausea shot and more fluids. They were finally able to get some food in her and I was able to bring her home at 6pm. Right now she is home snuggled on the back of the couch and she is acting much better. Not a 100% by any means but we are on the mend. She is just eating plain boiled rice which she seems to be able to keep down. So tonight.. Keep us both in your thoughts and prayers. I am ready for my girl to be on the mend.. We are both so exhausted. On the side note.. We will meet with the IMV either Monday or Tuesday next week. So anxious to see what she says. |
So sorry she (and you) had such a bad time. Hopefully this illness will get under control and you'll have many more good days than bad... Prayers sent for you both... |
Oh goodness, how awful for little Taycie. Praying for you both. |

We had a MUCH better night! We slept well and she is acting more like her sweet self:) |
Oh my goodness. :(. Glad you had a better night. I will continue to pray for both of you. |
Emily, I'm sorry you and Taycie are going through this. I'm glad she had a better night last night and I hope she continues to do better. I'll watch to see what you find out at the IMV this coming week. |
Emily, I pray last night was better, like Friday night. I can imagine the trip to the ER and spending the next day at the vet was scary for both you and your little girl. Praying for you and sweet Taycie. |
Oh, just catching up on Taycie & read that scary episode, scared me silly - can't imagine how bad off you were. Then so happy to read she's doing better. Prayer continues to hold Taycie up and hoping for some more good news soon. Get well soon, Taycie! |
I am first reading this now, and I'm so sorry that you both have gone through all of this. With a mom like you and such a precious love that you and Taycie share, it just has to get better. I really pray that it does. |
