Vomiting Hello~ I have a 15 month old named Pixie. Last night around 10, she vomited up some food that was orange in color, the second time she has ever gotten sick. She vomited every hour up until 10am this morning when the vomiting episodes spaced out a little further. Other than the first, the vomit looks like yellow foam and clear liquid. She is drinking water every once in a while. I tried water mixed with a smidge of baking soda last night and that did not work. I tried a 1/4 tablet of TUMS and that came up. I just tried 1/2 tsp of PEPTO 10minutes ago and so far no vomit. I noticed she was shaking a little this morning. Everyone I know has told me to wait 24 hours with vomiting to see if it subsides. I think I have used all the towels and blankets in the house. I'm thinking of trying to give her a spoonful of white rice if she keeps the PEPTO down. Any suggestions? |
I just went through this yesterday with Prissy...Not sure how much your baby weighs, but since Priss is only 4 1/2 pounds, I didnt wait..She vomited 4 times between 3am and 530 even after I gave her pepto..By the time we went to the vet as soon as they opened, her gums were already getting tacky..She had to have a shot and 2 meds, one that coats her stomach and intestinal track to sooth the irritation from the vomiting...I would at least give her pedialyte by syringe to get some electrolytes back in her..My vet said no food until she had not vomited for 8hrs...If she is still vomiting tonight, I would at least call the vet and get his opinion...You may have to take her in. |
Any time a dog vomits this many times & for this many hours, it NEEDS to go to the vet as dehydration can kill a dog. |
This baby really needs to see a vet. Dehydration happens so quickly with these little ones. Heidik gave some good advice. Check the pups gums for dehydration. If they are not moist and pink it could mean dehydration. Which could then mean IV fluids at the vet. Pedialyte was ok to use by my vet. And like heidik said, with hold food until the pup's tummy settles. My vet said fluids are more important. Not to scare you, but the last time my Mikki got sick I took her in to see the vet. In less than 24 hours she was already dehydrated. The best thing to do would be to go to the vet in my opinion. |
If a dog has a blockage, they will vomit continuously. Since everything came out, they will vomit yellow bile, meaning stomach is empty. Then white foam & dry heaving. Whatever they take in, be it water, meds, it will come out. They will also have diarrhea...or could she have gotten into something toxic (orange color)? Any updates??? Have you taken her to the Vet??? |
I hope you took your little one to the vet. They can go downhill so quickly! The vomiting has been going on too long now to wait any more. Sending get well wishes to your baby:love: |
How is your baby doing now ? |
I would never give a dog baking soda or tums especially for vommiting. Pepto is safe for dogs but at the rate she was vommitibg if it doesn't immediately stop I'd be at the vet. When anything vommits for whatever reason the body is trying to expell something. That would be my foremost concern vs just stopping vommiting. Any ideas what may have caused it? Scoobers ate an entire left over bar of black berry soap once...worst diarriah ever! Vet said pepto and white rice. Vommiting means otherwise unprocessed by the body. |
I hope she is ok. Did you take her to the vet ? |
