in need of advice Hi my name is Sherri and I am mom to a morkie girl named Hailey. I know I don't have an actual yorkie but I am in need of advice so I thought I would give this place a try. Hailey is 13 weeks old and sweet as can be I truly believed the women I bought her from was decent but 2 weeks later I now know the truth. First off miss Hailey has giardia which she is being treated for. The second issue is her hair, it seems to be thinning, like really thinning you can see her pink skin. The vet says she is healthy but what healthy pup loses their hair? Her hair is really dry and breaks easily. If anyone has any advice please let me know, I have 2 other dogs and 3 cats and I don't want them getting sick and I don't want Hailey to suffer either. |
I am so sorry. I don't have any advice but wanted to bump this thread for you. I pray you will find out what's going on. |
Just for now let the meds start to work. But Yorkies and Maltese both should be tested at 16wks and 6mths old for a Bile Acid Test which checks specifically for liver function. If she is eating well, and eliminating fine, give the meds a chance to work. then see what you have to deal with in terms of her hair. |
Welcome:) What kind of food is she eating? A lot of times skin/hair issues can be traced directly to the type/quality of food. I'm glad that the vet says she's healthy so far, a lot of times a not so good breeder will sell what ends up to be a very sickly puppy. I hope Hailey's health remains good and that her thinning hair is fixed. Please post pics, would love to see the little cutie pie:love: |

I\'m also curious about what you are feeding her. It is not normal for a puppy to be losing hair like that. |
Hi and thanks! She is eating Halo puppy food. I still have no idea what was going on with her hair thinning but it is but it is starting to grow in thicker now but now her nose is turning pink and the vet insist she is healthy so I have no idea! lol! She seems happy plays lots and eats well she gained half a pound in a week. Her hair feels almost like cotton and seems a bit dry so I am going to switch her to a grain free food and see if that helps. |
was a cytology performed on the skin? they take a smear or scrape of the skin and view it under a microscope to see if excessive bacteria or yeast is present. if those things are ruled out, it is possibly an allergy... hope you do find some answers and hope the giardia clears up! wishing you both the best of luck! |
Welcome to YT hoping that you new babe gets better soon |
Welcome. I hope your pup gets better |
Try switching her to a grain free food. It may be a grain allergy. Grain free foods include Blue Buffalo Wilderness and Wellness CORE. |
I would include a thyroid screen in her blood work.....skin scrapings sound like an excellent idea, and I am not at all familiar with Halo brand dog food...is that perhaps just available in Canada?....in any event, if all her labs come back good, as suggested, suspect the food and allergies....good luck with your baby girl!! She will get better as things get on track! |
hi there and welcome to YT! What part of Canada are you in? |
Hello! I can\'t really add anything to the wonderful advice you have already been given, but I did want to say Welcome to YT! |
