Thank you for all your concerns. I am glad to report that today was a good day, first good day in about a week. He drank alot of homemade bland chicken broth, and about seven tablespoons of bland rice and chicken mixture with a little baby food of sweet potatoes. I was able to walk him in the afternoon and he had a semi decent bowel movement, without any pain. All is stable for now, and he even had frozen cubes of chicken broth. I think his hydration will pick up, his energy has slowly come back too. He even played with his toy which he hasn't in over five days. He is comfortable and at ease at home, something that I doubt he would have in a cage with IV overnight. There is something to say about the psychology behind a dog and instincts to be with his pack (aka family). Even when my husband arrives, his energy and joy seems to increase. I hope for a steady upward healing tomorrow. I have a followup appointment with the vet on saturday. thank you everyone again |
Thank you everyone. Here is the end of day update. He is stable, he has eaten something every three hours. About a tablespoon each time of rice and chicken and prescription can food (RC Gastro) He has been drinking water mixed with chicken broth and a little unflavored pedilyte. In the evening he stopped drinking water, but I made ice cubes of the chicken broth and he loved them. I was able to walk him at sunset, and he had a little bowel movement without any pain afterwards (not like before). He was even playful enough to play with his toy which he hasn't touched in over a week. So all in all today was a good day! There is some to say about the psychology of keeping a dog near his PACK (his family) for healing. But each case is different. I hope to keep this upward movement in his healing process and tomorrow will be another day to nurse him. I am a bit exhausted, but he has been with me for 12 yrs, through ups and downs and now its my turn. |

Question Anyone have experience in this? How long after testing positive for pancreatitis should my vet retest to see the levels? Or how long did it take for your dog to show better in blood work? thank you |
Also should I give him a bath? Its been two weeks without one and now he seems to be getting itchy. I want to, but I'm cautious of it since this is so far his second good steady day. Not sure if it will give him more comfort or discomfort? |

day 3 of stability Well, good news, just got back from a followup with the vet and we got a "all good" sign for now. He is eating and drinking - although it has a little chicken broth in it - and its going to be hard to wean him off it :-) Right now, today he is having a bit of a constipation issue that his vet checked and she thinks it might have just been his anal glands. I do hope that is it, because he is eating so much more and now I don't see where its going. I'll give it another day. Onwards! |
