Question about pooping.... My 7 week old Lola has a small bit of red blood after she poops. She did have some dried poop on her bottom and I washed it off, this was a day or so ago. After that, I have seen her drag her bottom as I am sure it was sore. Anyway, I don't notice any blood until she poops. Would it be a good idea to put vaseline on the area to keep it moist so she doesn't rub it raw? Any suggestions? |
Perhaps a little hydrocortisone cream on her hiney in case it itches. I'd take her to the vet. This could be a sign of worms? Or something else. Too young to be messing around, though. Better hit the vet's office in the morning. :) |
If the small amount of blood that you have seen is bright red - it has probably come from the rectal area (not higher up - or it would be a darker color). Could you have irritated her little bottom when you washed the poop off her behind? Or could she have irritated her bottom dragging it around? It may have itched from having a poopy bottom....... And her bottom being sore or irritated may be what's causing her to drag her it around. Hopefully - all of this will turn out to be nothing serious. Good luck! Carol Jean |
Be sure to keep the hair around the anal opening very short to prevent poop from sticking to her bottom. Puppies at this age need to be de-wormed about every couple of weeks until they are about 14 weeks old. Your vet will do this for you when you get Lola her vaccinations - just be sure to ask him or remind him she needs to be de-wormed. |
I've heard of dogs having Hemorrhoids from straining too much...may want to have it checked out for that, too. |
Slight Blood After Stool Was Dx'd As Having Giardia This is the fifth day having our puppy and noticed slight blood after bm, into the Vet monday morning, said she has Giardia, a parasite, he said it is easy to treat when caught early. We had to put meds into gallon of distilled water and she only gets that for drinking (no other water) plus her food for the next ten days. We take her back for recheck on the 19th. She is doing fine. The meds seem to be working, hard to get her to drink though, guess she can smell the meds so when I notice she isn't drinking enough I have a small spoon and she licks the water from that:-) yeppers talk about spoiled. Allready, but thats ok she is so sweet, we both are so happy that we decided to get another. We call her baby now, am leaning towards calling her Grace or Blessin, hubby says call her Cassie cause she reminds us of how Cassie was when she was a baby. But, I don't feel comortable calling her that. Back to my knitting, making new sweaters for her, all real small size as we think she will stay quite small. I couldn't give her Cassie's things, she has to have her own. We are glad we found this site, it is great. Patti and Jack :) |
Lola had irritated bottom and is doing fine now. I was scared to trim the hair cause she is a wiggle worm so I made my husband do it! Be careful with the Giaridia as it is quite contagious. Treatment for it has come along waY though, since my sheltie had it about 20 years ago...wow, it didn't seem that long ago! |
These dogs are little. When you need to trim the hair on their bottoms, just have one person hold the dog.......very firmly...and let a second person do the trimming. Personally - I have never had a pup that was such a wiggleworm as my little Yorkie is. I am grooming him myself (just a puppycut - which is easy). And, it takes us more than one session to get this done. I have no idea how groomers work with these little characters. One person on this forum gave me the best advise in the world. She said to put some cheese on a plate and put it in the microwave. When the cheese melts (until it is almost hard on the plate) let the dog lick on it while you trim him or do other things. Honestly, this really does keep him busy and still for quite a while. It works!!!!! Carol Jean |
