Help Strange Yorkie Problem
 
Hi I'm Cora and my Yorkie's name is Gunner he is 1..
I have only had him for about 7 days and I have noticed something kinda weird that he dose..Ok he has an ear infection and used to eat moist and meaty dog food and was neglected to say the least about his old house (this is not the problem just a little background). Though out the day (day or night) when we are petting and loving on him be starts to growl and tries to bit his front legs (detail: he dose not actually bit his leg just puts it in his mouth for the "affect") and he dose not limp or favor it and I can touch his legs.. Could he really be smart enough to pretend to bit his legs to be left alone or is there a problem?? Dose anyone else have this problem?? the vet said it could just be itchy or maybe a cramp but there is no way to really tell since there is no visible problem. PLEASE HELP MY HUBBY THIS HE HAS A MENTAL PROBLEM!!

Welcome to YT ! Your hubby could be rite. I would suggest that you take him to the vet for a check up & physical exam & talk to the vet about this behavior & see what he/she thinks. This could be a behavioral issue , but it could be a health issue as well. If the vet finds nothing wrong then you could find a behaviorist & see what they think. Please keep us updated on your new little family member.

What are you feeding him now how is hr doing with it?

Does he appear to maybe be itching or chewing himself?

One of my dogs was irritable cobstant ear and eye onfection scratched chewrd and was very grumpy he needed a grainless low allergen food . Scoober is allergic to corn but also very sebsative to irritants in general.

The cet xan help a vehavioralist and a change in food treats bedding took our rescues leaps and bounds in improvement.

Hi and Welcome to YT!

I don't know if this is the same thing but when I brush my Peek A Boo, he'll start chewing on his front leg, mostly the right one. If I tell him to stop he will, or when I stop brushing him he'll stop too. May be similar to what your pup is doing.

My very first thought was grain and /or corn allergy also. I'd try a grain free food.

Sometimes grain allergy wont show up on an allergy test but grains are known to cause ecen nonallergic irritant reactions i.e. grains especially corn causes a natural warming sensation especially seen in rodent feeding tests (russian dwarf hamsters scratches groomed extremely) also especially corn is grown in a way that causes a high allergen content I beleive flaux is also.
