My yorkie has diarrhea Long story short I found some fleas on my yorkie last month. The vet put vectra 3d on him and recommended I do it once a month for 3 months. For both doses last month and this month ( a few days ago) he had diarrhea a few days later. He's had diarrhea all since early this evening and I gave him an ammodium ad pill about 2 hours ago. He won't drink and he's shivering. :( Any recommendations or advice? Thank you in advance. :aimeeyork |
He could be having a reaction to the flea med. If my dog were having symptoms such as these, I would be going to the vet/ER ASAP. Also I would Not give any other meds or OTC drugs unless you have discussed it with your vet as some OTC things have things in them that are toxic to dogs. |
If this were my dog, I would be taking him to the vet....neurological signs and symptoms are common side effects of flea meds....tremors, staggering, drooling, twitching, (shivering could be fine tremors) anything like that could very well be from the flea med. |
vet please bring him just to be sure hes ok. |
Did you take him to the vet? I hope he is ok. Louise |
Is your pup ok? You really should always check with a vet before giving any medication...I would think an entire Immodium pill would be too much for a tiny yorkie. |
A few yrs ago My vet told me not to give immodium there is something in it not appropriate or good for dogs |

Also another thing these Med companies are always changing the formulas on these meds thats why its important to check with a vet first because what was safe to give once before may not be safe now |
Hi everyone. Sorry for the late response. The following morning my yorkie was feeling a lot better. I guess it was one of those 24 hr virus'. We took him to the vet anyway and we're considering an alternative to the vectra. Thank you for the responses :) |
Thanks for the update! :) Happy to hear that all is well. |
All my vets have always said Immodium was fine. I have larger yorkies, and their dosage is only 1/4 pill, so I would question an entire pill. I'm wondering if there was a formula change recently? I'll be sure to ask the internist we've been seeing for Rory's intestinal issues next week. |
I'm glad you got him to the vet and that he's feeling better. Hopefully you find an alternative so that if he did have a reaction, he won't have one again. Thank you for updating us! |
Thanks again everyone. He has another appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Ill keep everyone updated :) |
So glad to hear your baby is feeling better. |
If your dog does not appear to be suffering from a medical condition and has not ingested a toxic substance, the diarrhea can most likely be treated at home. To begin with, make sure that your dog is drinking water regularly in order to prevent dehydration.Add a probiotic powder to the dog's water, or feed your dog a brand of healthy pet food that includes probiotics. |
