Great news! |
Did they happen to check a hemoglobin/hemocrit level on Fletch, just to see how much blood he actually lost? (I have that picture in my mind from your other post....("more blood than stool") I like to know lab values...nurse in me....just so you would know just how low he actually got. |
The vet did not tell me how much blood he lost. He did say that his case was acute and showing HGE, but only borderline. Based on the bowel movements I saw it was not an extreme amount of blood, but I don't know anything about that. They did do a bloodwork panel and the only thing he mentioned was his white blood cell count was elevated and he was borderline HGE. Thats it really. Today there has been no blood in the 1 bowel movement he had and he has not gone again. |

This is almost like a flu or virus in a human except there was blood in his stool. Its 24-48 VERY SCARY hours... and then it passes like nothing happened. I'm the only one left shaking! LOL Hes just fine after that. I'm so happy hes on the road to recovery now and I feel I can go away with a more comfortable peaceful feeling. |
Oh and it's HGE, not GHE! Oooopppsss |
I am so HAPPY to read that Fletcher is doing so well. Yep it can be a very scary 24-72 hours for sure. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is my VERY handsome baby this morning on the ride home from the vet! I'm so thankful he's doing better! :D |
How scary for you:eek: I am so happy to read that Fletch is doing much better now. I don't know anything about HGE, but it sounds just horrible:( |
Just checking in and hoping all is going well with Fletch. |
I went through this several years ago. We spent 4 days with IV fluids and vet care. The IV was managed during the day at my local vet and at the emergency vet clinic through the night. I am a RN and brought him home for one night and administered IV fluids and medication myself. He became unresponsive, flaccid and seized during med. admin.. It frightened me so much that I took him immediately back to the e-vet to continue treatment there. This is very serious!!! I hope your fur baby makes a good recovery! My fella is going strong now, but still has times of gastric distress....He is my biggest, strongest and most hardy member of the five pack. The Vet told me that was the only thing that saved him!! |
Checking in on little Fletch!!! Hope all is well with him!!! |
Praying that Fletch is continuing to do well. |
hi all! Thanks so much for thinking of Fletch! I had to go away for a few days but he was in great hands and has made a FULL recovery! :) I'm starting his slow transition back to his regular food as of last night, just a tiny bit. But he is back to himself 100% ... i was so very very lucky! :) |
I'm so happy he's doing so well. When Peek a Boo had HGE, he got well quickly and was fine for a while... but then had another bout of it 3 weeks later. So keep a close eye on him... ( I know you will... just wanted to warn you, lol) |
oh yeah, I definitely will! So the dog sitter thought I said to feed him 1/3 a cup of the wet food a day. When I really said 1/3 of a can 3x a day, so my poor baby didn't eat much in 4 days, but I bet that was ok, it gave his digestion a chance to settle and the vet did say he'd like to see him down about 4lbs. LOL Poor guy! I did read and the vet did say that it could recur in a few weeks after, so he gave me doggy kaopectate and plenty of prescription food, should I need to repeat in a few weeks. I hope and pray not though! |
